Hows it going, people of the internet? Aisforawsome here, and today I am going to give you some professional tips on how to get noticed on Planet Minecraft.

This blog was inspired by Apimil's blog about how PMC was not going downhill. (Found here)

However, instead of reassuring you, I am going to give you expert tips on how to get noticed on Planet Minecraft.

Part One: The Build

Easily the hardest and longest part of a project is building it. And when I say building, I do not mean taking other work and using MCEdit.

To start, as you would most things, come up with an idea. It doesn't have to be something that nobody has done before, just something that you want to build. After you have what you want to build, get building! I do not recommend using MCEdit or any editing tools to help build, If it can be built by hand, then that adds a lot of credibility to your name.

Before you start placing blocks, get a general idea of where everything is going to be. For example, if you are building a town, then you want to know where everything goes, and what everything is.

Once you have finished the build, take a long look at it. Be thinking to yourself, 'Where would more detail look good?' Be considering every option, even if it means using some blocks against their intended purpose. For example, using buttons for decorations rather than redstone wiring.

One you feel that you have put in as much detail as possible, use an editing tool to make the landscape around more pleasing for the screenshots. For example, if you made a floating island, delete the grass under the island.

Part Two: Screenshots

Before you leave Minecraft and go post the project, take a few screenshots. The first one you take should be the best, as it is the featured image. Be sure to get a beautiful view of the project, and feel free to use things like Optifine or GLSL Shaders to make the image that much better. Make sure to take all of the screenshots you can, meaning that you can NOT take three screenshots and be done. Finnish off the mess of pictures with a good view of the project, but not the best.

REMEMBER, USE F1 WHEN TAKING SCREENSHOTS!

Part Three: Downloads

Every build needs a download if it is complete. Downloads not only give you more experience, but it also allows you to show off your builds to others.

First, you need a cloud based file host. Most people would recommend Media Fire, but I personally disagree. Media Fire has been hacked on several occasions, and when someone clicks on the download link, it takes then to an add filed webpage. Not to mention that it pops up on another page with MORE advertisements. I recommend Dropbox, and by all means, look it up on Google. Dropbox does not take the downloader to another webpage, it stays on the page that is currently up (Planet Minecraft), so there is no need to worry about virus filled adds.

When you have Dropbox downloaded, and have made a free account, use an archiving program (I recommend 7Zip) to create an archive to put the world folder inside of. To find the world folder, (for Windows Vista-7) go to 'Start' and search for 'run'. Once in the run program, type %appdata% (with percentage markers). In the file that comes up, look for .minecraft, it should be at the bottom. Once inside of the .minecraft, look for the 'saves' folder. In here is all of the world folders. (If you need help for Mac or another version of Windows, please go to the Minecraft Wiki)

Copy the world into the archive, make sure there is a copy still in the saves folder! Put the archive in the public folder inside of Dropbox, and be sure to copy the public link.

Now onto the schematic. This is why you still need the world in thee saves folder. Go into MCEdit and export the build as a schematic. This will not work for most builds, but for anything free floating of the environment, a schematic is good.

Use the archiving program to create a new archive, and put the schematic file inside. Do not put this in Dropbox!

Step Four: The Post

Now that everything is done, you need to work on the post. Start by making a description. Do not simply put 'somethin i built plz diamond fav and sub'! Never do that! It is unprofessional! Not to mention unappealing. For the description, I recommend that you go into great detail about the project and why people should download it.

Once you have a good, strong description, come up with I title for the project. Even if your build is generic, come up with a creative name. Who cares, simply put the title in Latin if you feel like it!

Now here comes the featured image. If you are still new to PMC, and don't want to go crazy with detail, simply put the first screenshot you took as the feature image. If you feel like that is too easy, then go an edit it with a free online program.

The downloads can be tricky, but if you followed my confusing directions above, then you are good. Put the Dropbox public link in the World Download text box, and then use the schematic uploader to select the archive from your desktop.

If you ever update the project, remember that you need to use the Update log for it to count and be reposted.

I really hope somebody found this helpful,

hmm you pretty much proved your point here with the vast number of views on this blog...
I say update your project often, in the few hours after you updated your project you get more views than in weeks after.

i can honestly argue with that.
1) when you build something, good as it may be, it will only affect a target audience. that audience Must be on to view it when it comes out, or else it will be a wasted post.
2) if you do end up posting something during a high traffic time, odds are it will be swept away from everyone else posting their work as well.
3) MCedit is a tool given to make immense builds possible in a short time. I don't mean "go make an empty hull". What i think should have been said about the use of mcedit is that you can't post a pretty stone shell and expect a million hits right away like most people do.

You do make some good points, but the main reason I posted this was to help beginners actually get more than 5 views. Maybe later on I will make a blog about how to become extremely successful.
