I know, I know.

I'll probably sound like a goody two shoes for admitting this to the public, but I don't Skype with strangers. I might like talking to a member of Planet Minecraft or make a friend on a multiplayer server, but I never Skype or release my contact information to people I don't know in real life. And I know what you're thinking - "Everyone does it!" or "Why should it matter?"

It actually does matter. If you're older or if your parents are okay with it, then you shouldn't have any worries in the world. But if you're adding people you know only from a server you go on once in a while to your contact list and video calling them and letting them see your last name and how old you are, that's a problem.

When we were younger, all of us were told that we should stay away from strangers. Some people were told by their parents that if they don't, they'll have a blue nose for the rest of their life, or that their hands will turn into feet. Of course, we all know better than that now, but we should still apply the basic rules we were given when we were younger to our daily life, right? That's what we were taught for.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't Skype strangers. It's okay to do, but you have to be very careful. Don't give out your phone number to people you barely know, and you might want to keep your last name out of reach, too. A little mistake can mean a big situation if you aren't careful.

For example - I have a friend who used to use Skype. She accidentally accept a stranger's contact request. This stranger cyber bullied her and sent her inappropriate chat messages. This stranger had friends who sent her contact requests, too. She felt harassed and became very upset. Eventually, she had to tell her parents and never used her Skype again.

The point is that you should be very careful online. If you aren't, you have the potential to get yourself in trouble or find yourself in a very sticky situation! Everything is in your reach and in your hands. Use that to your advantage. Make your own choices and make sure you won't regret them later. Be careful, stay safe, and I will see you all soon!
