Why am I the last human on this earth? (An improved story, original concept from another PMC'er.)

I was a normal kid, out enjoying the nice summer weather and breeze. A van with blacked-out windows slowed to a stop next to me on the sidewalk. This was probably a normal thing for me as I was a runaway orphan.
A guy in a black and white suit stepped out of the passenger door of the van. He was holding some papers, and then he looked at me. "Steve, is that your name?" I replied reluctantly said, "Yes, what do you want? I don't want to go back to my orphanage. They are HORRIBLE." He paused, and read his papers for a minute.
"Steve, the government requires your assistance. Please come inside the van." Some of my mental alarms were ringing out, but I ignored them. The inside was larger on the inside than what it looked like on the outside, a VERY large luxury suite was inside.
I asked, "How did you cram this into a van?" He looked at me like I was of a bug's intelligence before answering, "Have you heard of the show Doctor Who? He had a machine called a TARDIS where it was larger on the inside than on the outside. This van has a concept of that idea installed." "Oh."
When the van rolled to a stop a few hours later, we were at a gate with large, blocky pistons showing, holding blocks of material closed to keep out visitors...
After the driver spoke into a little mike coming out of a wall, the gate opened and we drove through. "So, why do you need my help?" "This world," The driver told me, "Is running out of resources. We have a plan to renew it, but there will be sacrifices. You will be, erm, teleported to a New World. There will be strange creatures there."
They led me inside of a non-descript building, and there was a nine-square-meter glass box suspended above a appropriately marked square on the floor. "Please note that after this, we will not be your friends anymore." The guys' voice was strained with a tinge of sadness, and I started getting suspicious about this operation.
A loudspeaker sounded, and it said, "PLEASE ENTER THE MARKED SQUARE, SUBJECT NINE. PLEASE STAND IN THE MIDDLE SQUARE" I was about to protest when a lime green square suddenly announced itself in the marked square on the floor.
I did as I was told, and the glass box lowered over the area. I started panicking because I HATE confined spaces. The loudspeaker said, "PLEASE LIE ON THE PROVIDED BED" and once again I was about to protest when it appeared in the middle of the room.
I jumped onto the bed and made myself comfortable, and then latches sprang up and gripped my legs and arms. Oh, crap.

Part two

A huge, rumbling noise sounded out and rose in tone. I looked out of my box I was in, and there was this machine that started glowing an intense white, filling the room. I looked at a official, and he fell to the floor in pain, screaming and writhing to the floor.
I watched a little longer, and his flesh melted off of him and fell to the floor. Soon he was nothing more than a skeleton, and then it stood up. The set of bones grinned evilly at me. I passed out, disgusted.

I woke up, and then opened my eyes, and I was now on a smaller bed, but it had no latches. I stood up, feeling immediately different. I looked down, and saw that my body was composed of cubes now. Great.
The glass box holding me was now smaller, or maybe I was larger. I started punching the glass and broke it really fast. I stepped out, and then I remembered the official's words. "After this is done, none of us will be your friend." I looked over to the dark corner of the room...
Cautiously, I crept towards the corner, I heard a hollow shuffling noise, and then a MOBILE SKELETON ran out from the corner and attacked me. I started punching it, and soon it collapsed into a lifeless (Like it should've been) pile of bones. I picked some up and put them into my pocket.
I walked out of the building, and the world was different. It was all blocky and not at all smooth like it once was. I could see nothing except blocks for miles, but I was shocked: There were no PEOPLE.
