Yo everybody! I'm here with my very first PMC blog, all about how I build modern in the game of Minecraft. Now, you don't see too many of these topics, which is a shame, because it'd be nice to see how alot of the more well-known builders plan and build, so I decided I'd do one. :)

If you're just starting out:

Everyone has to start from somewhere. Most people don't just say "I want to build modern!" who have never built modern before and make a perfect masterpiece. I started off as a very derpy builder. I'd use shapes too repetitively, make certain materials clash in strange ways, and have odd floorplans. But over time, after gaining inspiration, studying other top-builders builds, and trying out new shapes and ideas, I evolved into the builder I am today. So, if you build modern and you feel like you're sucking at it, keep trying, you'll improve with effort. :)

How I build:
Some people like to start a building by freehanding the structure, with no prior planning at all, just going in and placing blocks. However, from the way I view things planning makes the final product better in most cases. I almost always start off with a model. A model is a small scaled version of a building built in-game to get a basic idea of the shape of the final product. uorBgmpng (The model made of my project, The Risen Residence.)

Then, once I've created my model, I get some land (usually flat to begin with) and I begin to re-build the model up to the scale of what the actual building will be. Now that I have a bare and basic shape of the build, I go in and add details and changes. I start to landscape, add greenery and touch ups, and start to work on the interior layout (how rooms/ segments will flow together) and interior decoration (what furnishings will fill up the building).

I personally work on everything in the above paragraph all at once. Switching back and forth between adding details and windows, changing the interior, landscaping, and planning certain things for certain spots in the building until everything is complete and the build is done.

Why this may not work for everyone, and why it's starting to not work for me:
Different people have different ways of building. Some people like to plan, whether it be sketching or modeling, some people like to freehand and place blocks randomly until the build is done, etc. So my way may not be your way, and vice versa. Now, I've been doing this for the more recent builds you see on my PMC account. The big problem now is that I've hit some sort of building block, and I feel like this way of building does not work for me anymore.

Even though I'm not freehanding the structure on a larger scale, which saves me a lot of time, I am still freehanding the model. This leads to me feeling like my model is very poor and not well formed. This blocks me from building in total, because modeling is the basis for my builds, and without my basis I cannot progress in a building.

Overall:
This is the way I build. It may not be your way, but please try it out if you feel it is worth a shot. I would appreciate it if anyone seeing this blog who can build modern makes their own blog on how they build modern, sharing your methods and ideas to the Minecraft building community. Thanks for reading. :)

Oh, and if you found this helpful or interesting, please....

I alway's sketch out what I'm planning before hand, but the downside to that is that it take's up too much time. Definitely going to try this method more often, thank's man :)
