Introduction:
Before I start anything major, I just want to say that these steps have been tested many MANY times. Most are these are COMPLETELY safe and will not harm your computer in any way shape or form. However, if you do happen to mess up, it is recommended you backup your computer before you begin any of these steps. Now, continue on and find out how to make your Minecraft lagless!

Step 1: Make sure you have the minimum specs!
You wouldn't believe how many people forget this crucial part. If you haven't looked at the minimum specs to run Minecraft, then that may be your problem. Make sure that you have at least those specs. But, if you do have the required specs and Minecraft is STILL lagging, continue on.

Step 2: Programs
Believe it or not, how many programs you have on your hard drive will determine the speed of Minecraft. Go through your control panel, and remove all the programs you don't want/need. Sounds cliche, but it works.

Step 3: CCleaner
This program is amazing! It cleans your computer's temporary files and solves regristry issues! Use this program and you will notice your Minecraft will have a little boost!

Step 4: Defraggler
This program is similar to CCleaner except it defrags your harddrive. This is a surefire way to not only make Minecraft faster but your computer as well.

Step 5: Set Priority
This is a simple way of making Minecraft not lag. This gives Minecraft a higher priority than programs running in the background. Just go to Task Manager>Right click on Java>Go to details>Right click on the select java>Set Priority>HIgh.

Step 6: A vbs file? (No proven to work with all computers)
This simple vbs is potentially a great way to reduce lag.  However, it is not proven to work for everybody.
Type this code in notepad: Freemem=Space(128000000)
Save it as Clear.vbs and save it as type 'All files'.
Double click on the vbs file and a few times. Now try running your Minecraft!

Step 7: Antivirus
Not only is making sure that you don't have any viruses/malware on your computer, but, the kind of antirvirus you have can slow down your Minecraft. McAfee and Norton have been know to slow down or even BREAK Minecraft. I recommend you use Avast.

Step 8: Set Minecraft video settings
If you STILL aren't getting the frame you want, then you may want to adjust your video settings. Here is a great video on the best settings for lagless Minecraft. This video also has Optifine will you can download at the optifine website! (Links Below)

Step 9: Upgrade your Computer
I know a lot of people hate this but, if you are still lagging, this is the best option. It is recommended that you upgrade your graphics card if you haven't. It is also recommended to look into getting a new processor. You can usually find these for a decent price on Amazon.

Yep. I am pretty sure you can look around for Defraggler and CCleaner for Mac. Or linux.

1 Word. Buy a new PC, somthing like a gaming PC. Because even if you have optifine, and that crap. If your PC sucks balls, your still gonna lag.

This was an article on how to reduce lag. Not completely get rid of it. And that isn't necessarily true, you can still follow these steps and get high frames. I don't necessarily have the best PC, but, I can still get up to 100 frames just by following these steps.
