Abandoned Emerald
An Original Story By: Spottedheart

Part 1-
Emerald hurried after her human. She dodged many leaves, and took short breaths, as she darted through the jungle biome. "Wait!" She cried. Emerald knew her owner couldn't understand her faint mews, but just to grab his attention would be nice.
"Please, slow down!" She paused, as she was interrupted by her body, gasping for breath. "I have short legs!" Emerald's paws ached, as her legs moved fast.
A flood of relief went over Emerald, as she saw her human stop, and look over his shoulder. "Emerald, you're quite a chatty cat today!" He said with a soft laugh.
Yeah, that's a way to put it. Emerald thought to herself. When she finially stood beside her owner, she flopped down, onto the damp, jungle floor. Her pelt twitched, as she felt the spikes of grass poking into her sides.
Emerald took a deep breath, and hauled her weight to her paws. She stretched her short legs out, and took a deep breath. "I'm all good now.. Perhaps you should just sprint, instead of sprinting and jumping!" She meowed grumpily.
She looked up, at her owner. The human's eyes were fixated in the direction of their home. Emerald head-butted her owner's ainkles. "C'mon! The house isn't gonna come to us!" She said.
Emerald looked up at her owner, puzzled. It seemed as if he had just ignored her mews. She pawed at his leg. "Er.. Human..?" She meowed quietly. Emerald's owner looked down at her, with a frown.
"Follow me, Emerald." He said, as he headed in the opposite direction, of their home. "Why are you turning around? We'll just get lost in the deeper part of the jungle!" She meowed, with a tone of panic. She felt a shiver run down her back, as the human said nothing else.
Emerald silently followed her owner, until they came upon a small crater in the ground. She watched, wearily, as the human hopped down. He grabbed his shovel, and started to hollow out an unveven pile of dirt, on the wall of the crater.
"Hold tight, Emerald. I gotta make us a place to stay while the night passes." Her owner said, with a stern tone. Emerald's fur stood up. "No! Please tell me this is a joke! Staying out, at night isn't safe, at all!" She cried.
Emerald quickly whipped around, and squinted her eyes, as she tried to look through the greenery. She could hardly make out the sun, that shone through the thick leaves, of the jungle trees. Emerald's jaw slightly dropped, as she saw the sun was indeed, setting.
"Emerald!" Perking her ears, Emerald turned around, as she saw her owner. He was calling her, from inside of the small, dirt room. She quickly leapt into the crater, and ran to his side.
Emerald's eyes flicked across the room, as she saw her human, placing dirt to block up the enterance.
The human sat down, and Emerald padded over to him. She curled next to his side, and shut her eyes. She knew her owner wouldn't sleep in these conditions, so she felt safe, having a lookout.
Emerald was shooken awake. Her eyes fluttered open, and she poked her head up. The human gently tried to move her, as he struggled to stand up. "Sorry, Emerald." He whispered.
Emerald stood up, and let out a huge yawn. She arched her back, and blinked heavily, as she stretched.
She watched, with heavy eyes, as her owner began to break down the dirt walls. He didn't even care for tools, as he was so tired.
"Just one second, Emerald." He said. The first clump of dirt broke, so he began to push at the lower half. "We'll be home before the sun sets, today!" He said with a reassuring tone. Emerald was happy to hear that. She missed curling up on her pink, wool carpet.
Emerald's pelt twitched, and she sensed something. With this feeling, came a great problem. "No! Stop!" She screeched at her owner. But it was too late. The final dirt block had been broken, and she saw a flash of green dart out, from behind the corner.
The human punched the creeper as it startled him. Emerald knew, that was the wrong move. She watched in horror, as the creeper picked itself off of the ground, and charged back at him.
At the sound of the hissing noise, Emerald curled up into a ball, in the corner of the hollow. The sound of her owner's final cry was drowned away by the explosion.
Emerald's body was crushed by the debris that was slammed, into her frail shape. As the pressure on her body made her vision go dark, familiar memories flashed into view.
"Momma!" A little siamese kitten cried out, as she stumbled upon a bright blue flower. A larger, full grown siamese, padded behind the kit. "What a beautiful flower, Emerald!" The mother's eyes shone with compassion. The kit happily smiled. "Let's take it back home!" She squealed, as she bit at the stem.
A different scene had come into view. The same kitten was sitting three other cats. But this time, she was big as the others now. She was still sitting next to her siamese mother, but across from her, was a black and white male, and a tabby she-cat, sat before them.
"Emerald you shouldn't go on a journey that far! You're still young!" The black and white cat hissed. Emerald's mother stepped infront of her. "Calm down, Shadow! The owner is going to take her with him, some day! He never travels alone!" She hissed.
Shadow curled his lip back. "You're quite foolish, Eclipse! Don't you remember what happened to your brother? He was exactly Emerald's age when he went on his first journey, and died!" Shadow's voice boomed. Eclipse drew her paw back. She let out a gasp. "How dare you bring up my brother, an a time of your anxiety!" Eclipse hissed.
The tabby she-cat, who was not much older than Emerald interjected. "Mother! Father! Please stop fighting! Who knows if the owner will pick Emerald, or not! It's his choice!" She cried. Shadow locked stares, with the tabby. "Silence, Opal! Your sister's life may be at risk!" He snarled, at his younger daughter. Opal took a step back. "All of our lives are at risk, every single time we go outside of the home!" Opal snapped bitterly.
Maybe father was right... I am too young... The owner will respawn, but I won't...

Part 2-
There was no more pressure, crushing Emerald.
Emerald opened her eyes. She was nowhere near the explosion site. Instead, she was laying on the ground of a cold, stone floor.
She craned her neck, as she lifted her head. She couldn't see anything near by, but she could hear the sound of rushing waters.
Too exhausted to investigate, she rested her head back onto the ground. Am I still alive? Honestly, it doesn't matter.. I don't know how to hunt, and I doubt my owner still thinks I'm alive..
She let out a long sigh, but her ears perked as she heard a voice from behind her. "You're awake." The voice was deep and firm. Emerald struggled to lift her head again. She saw a slim, broad shouldered ocelot sitting by the enterance of the cave. How did I not see him before?
"How did I get here?" Emerald rasped. The tom walked closer to Emerald's motionless shape. "The creeper was just going to draw more mobs closer, so I brought you in here." His voice was confident. Emerald squinted, still dazed.
"Who are you?" She asked. The tom's whiskers twitched. "Curious house cat, aren't you?" He meowed. Emerald shrugged. "Asking for a name shouldn't seem that curious," The tom snorted at her remark. "My name is Hawthorne.. I'd imagine a pampered house cat, like yourself would have a name." Hawthorne said.
Emerald rolled her eyes. "My name is Emerald.." Hawthorne nodded. "Are you hungry, Emerald? I believe I have some extra food." He quickly padded away into the back corner of the den, rummaging through a pile of random scraps.
"A cooked fish would be amazing, right now." Emerald's mouth watered, at the thought of cooked fish. Hawthorne's laughter ended her daydream. "You are foolish, if you think I have anything cooked."
Emerald grunted. Her nose wrinkled, as she smelt what Hawthorne had to offer. He dropped the body of a chicken, missing majority of its feathers, infront of her muzzle.
Disgusted, Emerald struggled away from the carcass. "Ewe! Why would you put that even remotely close to me?" She hissed. Hawthorne had a puzzled look on his face. "It's not that old! I caught it this morning!"
Emerald snorted. "Are you expecting me to eat that?" She couldn't even imagine attempting to digest the chicken. Hawthorne flattened his ears. "I'm expecting you to feed yourself, so you don't starve to death!" He hissed.
"I didn't have to save you, if I knew you wouldn't let me help you!" Hawthorne growled. Emerald slumped forward, feeling a bit of remorse for her actions. "I guess I'll try it." She grumbled. Hawthorne pushed the chicken towards her, observing with narrowed eyes.
Emerald looked awkwardly at the chicken. "What do I do?" Hawthorne bent down over the chicken. He sank his fangs into the bird's torso, tearing out a chunk of meat. Gently setting the chicken down at his paws, Hawthorne then looked back at Emerald. "Just like that," He said with a mocking tone, before beginning to eat the chunk by his large paws.
Emerald curled her lip back. She had no interest in trying the chicken, at all. But as hunger shook her body, she knew she had to. Emerald moved close to the chicken. She slowly moved her face closer, and shut her eyes.
Emerald was disgusted by how soft, and delicate the chicken's flesh was. After clenching the meat in her jaws, she pulled her head back, ignoring the tearing sound.
Hawthorne looked proud, as he saw Emerald trying his typical meal. "Try it! I bet it will be different from what you expected!" He meowed cheerfully. Yeah. Right. Now how much are we betting on this? Emerald thought to herself.
Emerald chewed a scrap of the chicken, and ate it. It was better than rabbit, but wasn't as good as fish. Hawthorne's eyes were round, as he anticipated Emerald's opinion.
"It was alright, I guess." Emerald meowed blandly. Hawthorne smiled. "Well keep eating.. You have a long trip ahead of you." He said. Emerald shot a confused look at Hawthorne. "Um. What?" She meowed.
Hawthorne went back to eating his portion of the chicken. "I'm going to help you return home.. Besides.. I doubt a house cat like you could survive out in the Jungle Biome!" He snorted.
Emerald shrugged. As much as she wanted to protest against Hawthorne, she couldn't. He was right. She had been born into a house, not a jungle. "It will take us a while." She shrugged.
Hawthorne nodded. "Where do you live?" He asked. Emerald sighed as she though of home. She missed her mother, father, and sister. She couldn't imagine how Eclipse, her mother, would react, not knowing where her daughter had went.
"I live deep in the birch forest, past the plains.." She meowed, with a hoarse tone. Hawthorne nodded. "Well, house cat, rest up. We got a long trip ahead of us."
Emerald had moved into a pile of feathers, next to Hawthorne. It wasn't as comforting as a wool carpet, but it sure was soft. Hawthorne was fast asleep, but Emerald was restless.
I owe Hawthorne so much... I haven't even known him for one whole day, and I don't even know what I'd do without him...
Part 3-
Emerald's pelt twitched, causing her to stir. Lifting up her head, lazily, she saw that Hawthone was gone. Emerald squinted her eyes, and could barely make out the sun, that just peeked over the top of the grass spikes. Rubbing her eyes with her paw, she let out a yawn. Where is Hawthorne, anyways?
Creeping out of the cave, she angeled her ears, trying to pick up any sound. Emerald frowned, as she couldn't track him down. Turning around, she nearly jumped out of her fur. "Good morning, house cat!" Hawthorne chirped.
Emerald hissed in surprise, and humiliation. "Don't do that!" She growled. Hawthorne rolled his eyes playfully. The ocelot turned around, and twitched his tail, signaling Emerald to follow. Emerald was confused, as she saw Hawthorne uncover many pebbles and rocks.
"What's under there?" Emerald meowed, trying to get a better angle. "When I found you, your owner's stuff was still laying on the ground, managed to bring this back." He said, dragging out a paper in a scroll-like form. Emerald tilted her head to the side. "How is that supposed to help?"
Hawthorne struggled to get the paper to flatten out. Emerald stepped in, and held one side down, while Hawthorne held the other side. "It's a map! I know we can't really understand the markings.. But I think we can use this to get a good idea of where we're gonna have to go." He meowed.
"Are you sure this is going to work..? And besides, who is gonna carry that.. The map is almost as big as us..." Emerald said, uncertainly. Hawthorne shrugged. "I don't think we should take it either, so just get a good look at it." He meowed.
Emerald studied the map. She saw the plains biome, that surrounded the sides of the jungle that didn't go off the page. The top corner was full of what appeared to be trees. The birch forest.. There was a blue dot, in the center of the leaves. "I think that black spot right there is where my home is." Emerald meowed.
Hawthorne nodded. "You did say you lived in a forest, so that does add up." The map looked easy, but the only thing that looked hard for Emerald, was a large river, that sepperated the forest from the plains. My owner had to carry me across last time. How am I going to get over this time?
Emerald jumped, as Hawthorne let go of his side. The paper quickly rolled up again, startling Emerald. "Hope you got a good enough look at it!" Hawthorne softly laughed. Emerald smirked and rolled her eyes.
"Alright, let's get a move on!" Hawthorne meowed. Emerald followed the cat out of the den. As they began walking down the slope, Emerald's paws pricked with anticipation. For she could not wait to get home.
"So, what's your home like?" Hawthorne meowed. Emerald blinked softly, as the sunlight hit her face. "Well, our house is really big! My owner has many cats too, so its just like the jungle, only we're all tamed!" She meowed, happily. Hawthorne's whiskers twitched. "I doubt that they're like the jungle cats.. We all are on our owns, and fight for ourselves." He said, quietly.
Emerald slightly frowned. "Oh. Well then we aren't like them.. The cats at home all live together, and we always put each other first." Hawthorne nodded. "That sounds really nice, actually." He said.
Emerald's eyes widened, as she saw the plains, straight ahead.
"Luckily, your owner stayed right at the edge of the jungle." Hawthorne meowed, as he walked into the yellow grass. Emerald broke into a sprint, and darted past Hawthorne. "We made it out of the jungle!" She squealed with excitement. Hawthorne snorted. "We didn't even have to walk that far!" He purred. Emerald bounced around, waiting for Hawthorne to catch up. "We still are out of the jungle, though! That means we're closer!"
Hawthorne smiled softly. "Yeah, I guess it does."
