Thank you for clicking this, and reading this sentence, but i must implore you to continue reading as to what i have to say. Thank you for your attention.

Now, like any normal guy or gal, who has a minecraft account, they want to make a minecraft server, and i am no different in that endeavour. BUT the one thing that i want to be different is the way that i have my server set up.

If you have ever gone surfing the web or planetminecraft, or any other forum type thing, than you know that most servers advertise either unbelievably amazing things like insta-admin-ing, or PvP Factions McMMo. Now, the problem with most minecraft servers today is that they don't care about the player, they care about the popularity of the server to get support or advertising or fame. Now the problem with this is that they want everyone in their enourmous server to love them and tell al their friends to join that server so they get fame also. So, to endorse their server, they have an upvote system, where if you upvote you get essentially god tier items. Now themain problem with this is that then people don't upvote servers becuase they like them, but becuase they can get free items, and finding actual, legit, servers is almost impossible to do unless you and a group of friends make a server by yourself.

This upvoting system has made it so that only servers that have thousands of players logged in at one point or another, get the upvotes becuase most server adresses give the top spots to servers with the most players, and the most upvotes. So, they get this exclusivity, making it so that smaller, more user friendly servers that have a community of players and an actual purpose to the game instead of just upvoting and getting a thousand diamonds, these small servers get shoved down becuase they arent "bandwagon" enough.

If you don't know the explanation of bandwagon, it essentially means that if ten people are doing it, then i should do it too. The problem with this is that it exponentially grows, and the peer pressure to join that server based on how many players htere are goes up, so if you don't join that server, than you're a "loser" or someone who isn't up with the times.

Thus, due to this bandwagon effect, big servers get bigger, and small servers get smaller becuase they figure that if they put out the same kind of advertisments as the big servers, than they can survive at the bottom of the food chain, or rather the server chain. This exclusion of servers that are small and devoted, but don't have enough players to get going makes it so that they have no players on the server, making the bandwagon effect go away, and almost permanently go away, unless someone decides to log on onto an empty server. In essence, big servers get bigger, and small servers get smaller until they dissappear.

What i've been trying to get at is that me and a friend, (Draketalon) want to make a small server, and if that server grows too big, we could always diversify and make two servers, or something like that.

But that is just to allow other servers to also get up there, on the leaderboards. another thing we want to do is to make it so that the game is survival, and the pay to win element will be something we will really try to eliminate on the server, though servers usually run off of donations.

What im saying is that i want people who just want a nice server that isnt going to have 500+ people all talking at once making it impossible to talk. I want people to go on this server becuase of community, not out of bandwagon. The server will most definitly have mods, like zeppelin mod, (as soon as it becomes SMP) and some other mods, based on what the community wants, and what me and draketalon should be appropriate for the server to make it a more enjoyable experience for the players. If, say, i get pony mod, (which i would never do unless for some weird reason, the server wants it to be) and the entire community said that it made things worse, than it would be taken out. Or if a mod made the game too easy,(like TMI) then it would be taken out.

So, if you want to join a server, and have some patience, just leave a comment asking to join. And remember, no-one will punish you for joining a low-player count server.
