This has been bothering be for a REALLY long time. It's when a server gives super over-powered weapons, perks etc. to so called "VIP'S" or maybe "Doners". Occasionally, they'll add something like "VIP+" or "Hero". Servers, stop the bribery.
You know what, it's not worth it. I actually donating $10 once and got banned a couple days afterward for "hacks"... :( No refund. ANYWAYS, before we get off topic, lemme say something. Donating or buying ranks is not worth the risk of your money. Basically, what servers do is they give extremely powerful stuff to people who donating or bought a rank. This encourages buying and paying them for the stuff so that the players can get it. Because EVERYONE wants super over powered swords, so they take advantage of that.
That's basically what they do to you. They manipulate your knowledge or I should say... gameplay so that they get more money. I'm not saying that all servers try to bribe you and are bad, but I know for sure that Hypixel's server for Blitz Survival, VIP's get some pretty crazy stuff like a horse :/ Sorry to throw you under the bus, but a lot of other players hate on VIP's on that type of game (FROM MY EXPERIENCE).
So is it worth it? Probably not unless its a good server. Should you get it? Maybe, depends if you want hate and a powerful sword, or if you want to become friends with regulars, but have the basics.

And the donators don't get overpowered crap, it is medium-high leveled weapons we get.
I also agree that some of the perks on the Hypixel server are a bit over powered (its still my favorite though).
