Hello ladies and gentlesteves and welcome to another of my blogs! Today I'm going to be talking about how to become a mod on a server. I am mod on an amazing server called the cube, and I'm going to tell you how I became a mod.
Patience - you're never going to be instantly modded the second you get on, you'll need to be patient and keep following these steps.
Maturity - you're not going to be modded if you go around trolling, being unhelpful and breaking the rules.
Good grammar - This one's not absoloutly essential but it's useful. If I owned a server, I wouldn't mod anyone who talked using "plz", "u", "r" and other things that make your sentances hard to read.
Don't ask for op. This will get you nowhere. Following these simple steps will be much easier...
1. Be friendly. Nobody will want you as a mod if you aren't nice. A good mod is friendly and helpful. Make loads of friends as quickly as possible. Rather than coming on the server and going and hiding in your corner on your own, say hello and ask to join a town. The chat is your friend! When people come on to the server, welcome them, ask them if they need a home or give them some rescorses!
2. Be helpful. This kind of ties in with point 1, if someone is in need of help, ask what the problem is and see if you can help! However, know the difference between minimodding and helping. Do not tell people what to do and threaten them with bans if a mod is on. Simply give them a reminder of the rules if a mod isn't on.
3. Be active. You're not going to become mod if you never come on. Be an active part of the community, join in with events and help people! Ask if people need any help, but don't pressure them into letting you help them :P
4. Never ask for op/mod/admin. Asking for a higher rank can completely destroy your chances of becoming mod. Asking for mod makes you seem like you come on only for the power.
5. Always follow the rules. When you come on a server, your natural instinct should be to type "/rules" and find out what they are. If you are ever in doubt of something, check the rules and ask a mod.
Some servers might have forums. Forums are a great way to get to know the community and eventually become mod. When you can't play on the server, browse the forums. If you see something that you could help with, help the person! Or you can just have conversations or play games on forums! Sometimes the server might be taking mod applications, if so this is a great chance for you! Here are some good tips for making a sucsessful application.
I myself am a mod on a wonderful server called the cube. I've been playing on it for about a year now, and I've made many friends. When I first joined the server, I was a shy n00b. I said "hi" and went off to the wild to build a house. It was a mushroom with a wooden box on it. I later asked if I could join a village. I was directed to the forums. I joined them and now have over 1000 posts on it. After about a week and a half I gained trusted rank - I was overjoyed. About 5 months in to my cube-venture I donated £3 to the cube and got "Donator" rank. Then, a month later, I was asked if I wanted to become mod. Naturally, I said yes, but let me tell you, it's hard at times. People can be demanding. So the next time you join a server, instead of immediately saying "CAN I HAZ OP?", think for a second. Do you really want mod? And if you really do, try using this tutorial. Thank you <3

X3 lol
On a different note, I also loved your blog about grammar/grammar nazis. Although I usually make honest suggestions for grammar and explanations why it is used that way, it helped me really think about the distinction of when I am helping someone, and just looking like a troll, so thank you. :)
@Gavman: If you want to be a moderator for any reason other than to make players have more fun, then you are not moderator material. Your post makes it sound like you just want to have power or feel important. The reality is that a good moderator doesn't have power - he enforces the rules as they're defined by someone else, who does actually have power.
