So, I've built cannons for a while now. including my project I'm currently working on. And i've come to a conclusion. Some cannons just don't cut it, alright, So a lot of people make cannons, and look at/search for Minecraft cannon designs, but why? What would you use them for?? well i've come to a thinking point, Why build a long range destructive cannon, when theres no use for that?
The proper Cannon design is Short Range. Why? you ask, well i'll tell you! imagine a castle. A very basic Castle with walls, and imagine a long range cannon being on said wall.. And a horde of rampaging steves. Fire it, the results are pretty self explanatory, it'l go straight over them. Now what? they'll kill you.
So! build a few dispensers instead and imagine it all again.. Arrows being shot out straight into the players killing them! but too slow.. and too easy to get past, Imagine a TNT being a very large "Arrow" that can hit more than one person, Simply, what I'm saying is. Long range automatic cannons are pointless.. They would be sieging a castle, which simply would take too much time to build for said siege and rarely would be needed on multiplayer. And cannons are nearly always useless on single player in any case.
So why build it? Exactly! build Short-range cannons for defense, so they are basically ground slide blasts that hit players! although, that kind of "event" happening on PVP/Faction servers is uncommon. Its fun to see when it is needed. I will say.. cannons are most of the time useless. People attacking nearly always have diamond/iron armor and will just take the blasts, but it can be very helpful to have cannons, when armor isn't in major play.
So why build them at all? Its fun! cannons are a great way to blow a little bit of time having fun in a game we all love, but if your not into that sort of thing. take the tips in this, and use them when you need them. Short-range for defense. If your attacking, use Longer ranged, but in moderation!
Warning: Some things in this blog may or may not actually help you. i will not be held liable for you having extreme amounts of depression. Cannons are not for everyone.
