Earth. The planet of legends and mysteries. Rumors of its existence had spread through the universe years ago, but no one believed any of it. Theories of treasure, history, and culture all found themselves in my claws, but I never thought anything of them.
Us historians have found possible clues that the planet once existed, even recreating a delicacy spoken in an artifact, something called “Pop Rocks”. I personally don’t care for them, their rough textures unnerve my tendrils. However our knowledge about this planet was about to expand.
I never thought Earth was a real place, let alone that I could explore it. Yet here it is, right in front of me. The ancient stories flickered through my mind as the atom manipulator beamed me down to the surface. Tales on how the Humans destroyed the planet in war, using self replicating drones. Rumors had it these drones took organic matter and made copies of themselves, until nothing was left. It would appear there was some truth to that, as massive gray structures filled the sky. Yet nature took back over, with soft moss and deep green trees scattered around, making it pretty challenging to navigate. They smelled nice, though. Like a summer back home, fragrant trees grazed the wind with pleasant and sweet scents. The brief distraction from the invasive ruins didn’t last long though. I hope all the Humans are gone, yet the stories of their brutality and savageness clog my brain.
Stepping into one of the more transparent structures, large shelves of various objects appear. I suspect this is a church, yet how their religion functioned I am not sure. I saw a large wall with a geometric lion outside, perhap they worshiped various animals. The hard tiled floor is rough on my feet, far worse then the packed dirt I am used to. In a separate part of the building, there is a massive shelf filled with various shoes. One of these was called “Clogs”. I suspect these were worn by priests during their ceremonies.
The rest of the building was rather difficult to explore, a massive tree had fallen in the middle of it. I decided to leave and enter a different structure, to try and learn a bit more about their culture. Inside I find what I believe to be a torture chamber, which adds to the stories on how they were savages. I found a room with a big slab of soft material, which made me gag with its gross texture. Next to it was a series of sliding drawers, perhaps a puzzle box to challenge them. In a different room I encountered a small purble object on the floor. It had bumps on what seemed to be a handle, reading out “Pooper Scooper”. I shudder to think of what horrible practices this could have been used for. Stepping into the next room, it quickly becomes apparent that not much else of interest was in here. Besides, it feels haunted here. I fail to understand why a torture chamber would be next to a church. I did notice that the main room in this containment had a similar slab of soft material, but smaller and with a backing. It surrounded a low table, which collapsed because two legs were missing. Perhaps it was used for Humans to sit around the table, for whatever vicious reasons they might have had. Perhaps something to do with the “Clogs” I found earlier, they did seem to have pointy ends. The familiar tickle of the atom manipulator warms my skin, calling me back. Stepping outside the ground melts away, and I return to my research ship. My team and I looked out at earth, planning to leave the planet behind for a future visit. As and as our FTL drive boots up, we ponder about the mysteries we encountered.
