Hello, everyone. My name is Jacob Sloat, but you can call me Jacob. I've also recently been going by Indy, or IndyNigma.
I've recently seen a lot of people in the "Server Recruitment" section of the forums asking for people to help own or co-own a server, and most people are actually applying for that with no idea of the duties of the rank. I've come to help stop this ignorance, and assist people in realizing that this job may not be the best for you.
First off, I'd like to discuss....
THE LIKELINESS THAT YOU WILL HELP PAY
Just as any Founder/Owner has to pay to keep the server going, it is likely your job to pay as well. After all, you are responsible for a portion of the server. It would only make sense that you would have to pay a portion.
THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE JOB
Just because you were accepted for the duty doesn't mean that you can just roam around banning people and abusing commands. Just like an Administrator's duties, Co-Ownership requires a lot of work. Also, just like an Admin, a Co-Owner does a bit of everything, from coding to moderating. Here is a short list of what the job does:
- Helping the Founder/Owner run the server
- Keeping the staff team in line
- Helping the Administrator with general maintenance
- Helping the Moderator keep the chat clean
- Helping the Developer code
- Helping run the forums, and possibly helping pay for it
- Give suggestions to the owner, such as plugins, etc.
- Assist in promoting and demoting players and staff
Etc. etc.
The job of Co-Owner has nearly the same duties as Admin, but a Co-Owner usually has more work and must be much more qualified.
RELATIONSHIP WITH THE OWNER/STAFF
Just as any other staff member, a Co-Owner must have a pretty strong relationship with the other members, as well as players. However, the friendly and trustful bond between them must be exceptionally strong. You don't just become a trustworthy Co-Owner from being accepted as the rank. You may have the power, but you don't truly have the rank. You must earn the trust of your peers before you become a full-time staff rank at all, especially with this rank. Trust doesn't naturally. Trust comes with proof that you're the right person to be trusted, like anyone.
This concludes my first article.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I know this is my first article. Thus, any opinions, criteria, or help would be much appreciated!
See you soon,
Jacob/IndyNigma
