As I walk around the bleak landscape I now call home I rejoice. Everything seems bleached of color except for the dark spires that rise from the darkness. It’s all cast in shadows that permeates this plane of existence. I shuffle from place to place not bothering to worry. It wasn't always like this though, at one time things used to be normal. It all changed when "He" appeared and created me.

I don't know why, but I always wander the town. Everybody has their own place and job. Not me though, I can't seem to fit in anywhere. We are a decent sized settlement with our own blacksmith, librarian, and priest. It’s in our benefit because it helps to attract adventurers, though even that is seldom.
Things were peaceful, and yet I felt tense all the time. It was driving me crazy, but what really tipped me off the edge was a particular visitor. He was an adventurer, he carried a pick-ax and a large bag. His clothing was rugged but his leather armor was well kept. He was searching for someone, though he wouldn't say his name. He seemed almost afraid to say it aloud. When I asked his name he said it was Steve. He told us he couldn't stay and headed west. It was that day I decided to leave the village in search of this person.
I started at mid day and set out after the sun. I walked for hours before coming upon the wild woods of oak and birch. I saw no sign of the adventurer having passed here. Dusk was coming fast and for the first time in forever I started feeling fear. without the rest of the village for protection. The shadows seemed darker and deeper, almost as if they were reaching for me.
My mind started traveling. Why was the strange adventurer searching for someone? Didn't they usually keep to themselves? Why did he seem afraid? Maybe the one he is searching for is dangerous. Should I stop searching and return home? All this traveled through my thoughts as I slowly traveled into the woods.
That's when the whispers started. "Come...." "Your almost there." "Join me." They came out of nowhere, silky smooth, and ominous. I knew not what to do so I started running. I was scared beyond fear. This was sheer terror. I ran for hours until I finally dropped exhausted to the ground in the heart of a clearing. My heart felt ready to burst and I was ready to give in to death. I knew the end was close.
Then something I never would have thought possible happened. A man stepped out of the shadows and started walking towards me. He looked almost like that adventurer from earlier minus the armor. I searched my mind for his name, Steve, he looked just like Steve apart from one difference. This man had eyes that glowed bright white. They seemed to shine from an eternal abyss of light. That's when he spoke.
"You made it my son, my disciple." I could only stare. this voice was not human. it was to deep, too dark, it seemed to reach my very core. I couldn't talk or respond but the man didn't notice or care. "Will you join me?"
I finally found my voice. "Yes. I don't want to die here like this," I spoke in nothing more than a faint whisper but it was enough for "Him" to hear.
He reached for me an simply pressed his hand against my forehead. Pain exploded through me and I squeezed my eyes shut and screamed. Time passed and slowly my screams changed to inhuman sounds. My body felt like it was being torn apart into billions of pieces. Time seemed to stop, then, ever so slowly the pain faded.
Once the pain had left I opened my eyes and realized I was no longer me. My eyes were bright purple and I could see into the darkness as if it were bright day. I looked down and saw I was no longer even human. Now I was a shadow. A shadow of great power, I could feel it flowing through me. that's when "He" spoke again.
"Come my child it is time we left this place." I knew I could no longer speak so I simply nodded and followed him out of the clearing. "He" stepped into the shadows and vanished and I smiled. I had become part of something I belonged. With that I stepped forward and vanished like smoke to follow "Him".
