With all the great features out there for custom map makers to utilize, something is still missing. When you play a game, half the experience would probably be the music. The current music system for Minecraft is very inconvenient and annoying.
What is the point of this suggestion?
The goal here is to create a system where mapmakers can add their own music and sound effects to their maps to make them more creative and fun. Nobody likes a custom map that they have to download and install mods for, so I'm hoping that just like adding custom spawners and geared mobs, this can be done through a seperate editing system (MCEdit) then put into the vanilla Minecraft for mapmakers to make convinient and creative worlds.
A few theories on how to solve this issue:
ADDING SUPPORT FOR NOTEBLOCKS TO BE CUSTOMIZED TO PLAY CERTAIN SOUNDS.
People can already use MCEdit or programs like it to add custom pictures to maps, create specialized boss mobs, custom potions, colored text on command blocks etc. but what if they could also make noteblocks play a sound from a select group of sound files. What if instead of the normal noteblock sound, it made the zombie hurt noise, or the ghast shooting noise, or the enderdragon roar? There is even the possibility of extending it further so that it could play any custom sound file the player wants!
JUKEBOXES ARE ACTIVATED BY REDSTONE AND NOT THE PLAYER.
The way jukeboxes work currently is extremely inconvenient. It requires the player to insert the disc themselves, and then remove it and replace it when they want the song to start over. I propose that change to a redstone-powered system where the jukebox will play whatever disc is inside of it when it is activated by redstone. This will make it much easier for mapmakers to add ambient music to their worlds without having to make the player manually insert a disc into a box themselves, or having to set up mile after mile of noteblocks.
ADDING SUPPORT FOR MUSIC DISCS TO PLAY CUSTOM MUSIC.
I'm not going to hate on the current song selection from the in-game Minecraft music discs. I actually like the current songs. However, there isn't a wide enough selection of genres to create a proper feel for a lot of custom maps out there. Suspenseful battles require suspenseful, fast-paced action-style songs. Whereas a quest hub for players might be better suited to a bouncy, light-hearted feel. If mapmakers could use outside resources to make discs play whatever songs they want, there would be a huge increase in the quality and immersion of custom maps.
Remember the goal here isn't to make a mod, but to make music more customize-able in vanilla Minecraft!

This is still a great idea though, and congratulations on being a finalist!
