Here we are, guys! The premiere of D&D Club season 1! I honestly didn’t think we had any more sessions until the end of April, but I guess I was wrong. Anyways, I hope you enjoy the story.

Me and my mom arrived, and Julia came in as well, so she left and the two of us went up to Duncan’s apartment. It was 3:34, and the session was supposed to begin at 3:30, so everyone was here, but Gage was still setting up. Duncan had a new character sheet, as his old character, the Changeling known as Knox, had died in our battle in the necrotic-cursed hallways. I sat down in my seat at the head of the table and wrote down (in the level 3 spells section of my spell sheet) my new level 3 spells, Fireball and Clairvoyance. Then, we began.

The Cast
From one head of the table and clockwise, here’s our cast of characters:

Me (Gaél) as Dragus, a black Dragonborn wizard who often stays behind to cast ranged spells like Firebolt and Magic Missile from afar without taking damage from the people we’re fighting

Grayson as Ash, an Aasimar rogue who is extremely lucky, which is perfect, since he always ends up being in situations where he comes close to death, such as when he was in the belly of a roper and when a table came to life and crushed his ribs, almost killing him in one blow

Julia as Blaze, an Elf ranger armed with a bow, and who usually does most of the fighting alongside Henry

Gage as the Dungeon Master, which is pretty self-explanatory, but for those who don’t know, he plays all of the NPCs and explains the story

Isaac as Henry, a half-Orc (I forgot his class), the other one who does most of the fighting, which makes sense, since he has the most of health out of all of us, but he may get a bit weaker considering the fact that he was affected the most by the aging spell we were hit with last session

Duncan as Aven, a Fairy sorcerer, who we don’t know much about, except that he’s 2’ tall and knows a lot of spells

My description of us:

Henry: Old Man
Duncan: Dead Man Short Man
Me: Coward Man
Grayson: Lucky Man
Julia: Guide Woman (because she has the maps)

So, Gage began by giving us the usual recap of what had happened last session: we had completed our contract with Baron Alfin and ended the necrotic curse that plagued part of the dwarves’ caverns. I was possessed by the ghost of a dwarven mage who (I think) cursed himself while trying to cast a spell, left Knox (Duncan’s old character) on the brink of death, and after Blaze couldn’t heal him, he died of his injuries. However, Blaze was able to rid the caves of the fiend that was lurking within, which almost possessed Ash in his angel form, which would’ve meant death for the 3 of us. The spirit also hit us with an aging spell, which aged us all 30 years. It affected Blaze the least (because elves live for hundreds of years) and me and Henry the most, but it was more visible on Henry, with his hair turning gray. He’s still strong, though.

Before our long rest in the halls that were once cursed, we looked at Knox’s lifeless body. He had finally changed into his original, true form, which we had never seen before. Ash, being his thieving self, immediately went over to his body while we discussed what do with it and tried to loot it. However, as he took some of Knox’s gold pieces out of his bag, the guardian angel that appeared in the last session to save him (from death by monster table) reappeared and slapped Ash again, a warning not to become a fallen angel by looting his friend’s dead body. We decided to bring it back with us to the forge after our long rest, which we proceeded to take. Our health went up, and I spent some time learning how to cast Fireball and Clairvoyance.

After our rest, we carried Knox’s body back to the forge, where we told the dwarves (who didn’t really want us staying any longer) that we had completed their mission and lost one of our own in the process. (They had placed bets on our survival, and we could see money being passed between dwarves.) We told them his name and the leader gave a short eulogy and said he’d have a plaque in their forge for aiding in ridding them the curse. Alfin was notified of our mission’s completion and dwarves began moving furniture around, as they were gonna finally reopen the mine now that it was safe again. They also told us that a short (2’) fairy that had been sent by Alfin had arrived. He explained that his name was Aven and he had been sent by Alfin to check on us.

The dwarves told us we could take 5 weapons from their forge to sell when we get to Mirabar, each made by Durgeddin (the original owner of the forge). I forgot every weapon we chose, but I remember Ash picking out a heavy crossbow, Blaze picking out a bow, and me picking out a glaive. Then, they asked if we would be battling the dragon that dwelled deeper in the cave. We said yes, and set off on our journey, accompanied by our new friend Aven.

On our way to the dragon’s location, we formulated a plan, which involved a lot of arguing between Ash and Blaze about how her and Henry (and Knox, but he’s dead) always put him in the front and send him (the weakest of us all) in first, which leads to him being severely injured and on the brink of death. Why were they arguing? Because Blaze and Henry were trying to send in Ash to scout out the dragon’s lair, even though it would be able to sense him and all of Gage’s dragons are spellcasters. Luckily, I was able to get their attention and tell them I could use Clairvoyance, which I did. Gage led me into Duncan’s room, where he told me I could see the lair, with a black dragon that looked to be a young adult sitting atop a mound of gold, with a magical great axe and glistening shield amongst the riches at the wnd of a large pond. Neae the dragon was a large toad (about the size of Duncan’s bed) with a shiny crown on its head. It appeared to be the dragon’s pet.

I told the group what I saw, and we went into the battle. I have a vague memory of the beginning of the fight (I just remember the important parts), so forgive me for making the most epic part of the campaign brief. I do remember Aven going in first, standing on the weak wooden bridge above the water. The dragon was gone, but a fog appeared that engulfed the area. Those of us in the hallway (by the way, the image at the top of the blog is an image of the board during the fight) were unable to see through the fog, which didn’t reach us, but did block our vision ahead of the hallway. Aven attacked the toad, who the dragon said was called Rupert, and Blaze and Ash joined in. Henry also aided them, killing the frog with a blow to the head.

Meanwhile, Aven flew above the fog and tried to hit the dragon, but barely did any damage as he barely hit it. I came closer and used the Wand of the War Mage to cast a Fireball that not only damaged the dragon a lot, but caused it to lose focus of the fog generation, allowing us to see around the area again. Unfortunately, the dragon was angered and breathed acid, which damaged a lot us, but I only took 14 acid damage thanks to my acid resistance (because it’s a black dragon and I’m a black Dragonborn), bringing my health down to 18 remaining hit points. Henry dived into the water for some reason, but I forgot why. The dragon breathed acid again and I was brought down to 6 hit points, but I proceeded to be a hero for once and dived into the water, casting Firebolt. I rolled 8 d6 and it came out to a grand total of 27 damage, which KILLED THE FRIGGIN’ DRAGON!!!

Now that we had slain the beast and his pet, we collected the loot: 6200 silver pieces, 1430 gold pieces, 2 garnet gems, a black pearl, a potion of healing, a potion of flying, the glistening shield, the magical great axe, and a Wand of Magic Missiles. I split the SP and GP amongst us (using the magic device known as a calculator), Henry took the axe and shield, Aven took the Wand of Magic Missiles (because he can’t cast them as a spell), and Blaze got the potion of flying. We saved the gems and pearl to sell in Mirabar.

We returned to the forge, picked up the weapons, and left the cave, finally seeing the sun again. However, during our walk through the woods, we heard something coming behind us. We turned around and saw two frost giants walking through the woods. After some history checks, we learned (in-game) that they were usually violent, so we decided to fight them, with the battle beginning with Ash hiding behind a tree and shooting one of them in the face. The session ended with me being left at 1 remaining hit point after one of the giants hurled a tree at me.

Hope you enjoyed this! The season premiere was definitely action-packed, and I’m a hero! I literally slayed a dragon! We’ve now been through dungeons and battled dragons. What’s next after this frost giant fight? I’m not sure, but we’ll probably go to Mirabar, collect our payment, and sell the gems and weapons and earn some more of that sweet, sweet money.
