If the following tips have been of use to you, don't hesitate to click that diamond button.. Thanks :)
  • Be unique - Seeing as there are already 100s of pvp faction servers why would any player join your new server if there is already one that has a bigger community? Try out something new... Something that players have to come onto your server for... where they can't find it somewhere else.
  • Have a good Player / Staff Ratio - No one wants to play on a server where there are more members of staff than than the Olympic opening ceremony . Keep it to round about 1 staff member to every 5 - 20 player (depending on the slot sizes)
  • 'Employ' the right staff members - Simple as if you employ the wrong staff members they are going to annoy you or your players.
  • Keep your game-modes specific to your player count - If your server only supports 15 players don't have a gamemode that needs 10 players to run smoothly instead for example use 1 vs 1 battles that way your games are targeted so that your server can run smoothly without a full player count. (The popular hive server has 20,000 slots but rarely gets over 6000 visitors - They can afford to have gamemodes supporting 20 - 100 players)
  • Start small... grow bigger - Just because you start off as a small 5 player creative world... doesn't mean that you can't grow to be a 2,000 slot creative empire!
  • Don't be afraid to not be 24/7 - If you server is good enough... players will want to come back onto a server even if it isn't 24/7 or doesn't run on a dedicated server
  • Advertise where ever you can - Players won't know about your server if you don't tell them! Examples of good places to advertise are : Youtube, Planet Minecraft (Woop, Woop), Reddit.com/r/mcservers, wherever you can push your server to your target players!
  • Extra Edit : Balance plugins with performance - A server's biggest enemy, Lag, and with more plugins come more, yes you guessed it, lag. Not surprisingly a survival world with 100s of mobs spawning costs more performance that a small flatland creative server. More chunks = more cpu to load up chunks. So delete the blocks in chucks that you are not using in order to save performance speeds. Also a plugin like Nolagg can destroy entities that will lag up your system, however you probably don't want to be adding a load of plugins that will add more lag that get rid of it.

So what are you waiting for! Get admining!
