Greetings, browsers of PMC!
This tutorial we will continue the house we made in our previous tutorial, you can check that out here.
Last time we finished the exteriors, meaning we can go and do the interiors. Now, for this post I will take a different approach than with the other two tutorials. I'll be posting screenshots of the interiors I made and I'll try to explain what's in them and show some tricks you could use.
=======================================================================================
When you first step into the house you enter on this side. I've made a simple table out of stone slabs, and put a small chest and a fishbowl on it. To get these I used playerheads. You can get a player's head using the command:
./i playerhead 1 player:<playername> (For Bukkit)
/give @p skull 1 3 {SkullOwner:<playername>} (For Vanilla)
You can find a list of useful playerheads here. This list is very useful for making cool looking interiors, so be sure to leave a diamond on it if you like it.
=======================================================================================
When you walk into the house and turn, you can see this small kitchen. On the left, I put chests in the wall (you need to make sure they don't show from the outside!) and put a door in front of it to simulate a closet. I used slabs for the kitchen counter. On the counter I put a sliced up watermelon and a flower pot. I put in a furnace and a workbench too.
=======================================================================================
The fridge I used in the kitchen is another really cool trick, because it's actually functional. You can put food in the dispenser and a button on the iron block. Then when you press the button, it both opens the fridge door and the dispenser shoots food.
I tried to hide the dispenser behind the furnace and the door, so that the fridge doesn't look weird.
=======================================================================================
When you go up the ladder to the second floor, you'll get into a small corridor, which leads to the bedroom or up to the attic. I used a workbench for a chest, and again used a playerhead to put a small chest on top of it. It's important to keep rooms small when you try to do interiors for your house. That way you really get a cozy feeling to it.
=======================================================================================
The bedroom has two beds in it, with a small table inbetween them. I put a rubik's cube on it using a playerhead. The door at the end of the room leads to a small balcony. The door on the left is supposed to represent a closet again, but this time with books in it.
=======================================================================================
When you progress up the ladder, you end up on the attic. First you get into a small storage room with chests, crates, etc.
I used full piston blocks for the crates. You can only create this on a server or on a modded client using worldedit. The block ID for the full pistonblocks is 33:6.
=======================================================================================
I made the rest of the attic into a study. I used an enchantment table for a reading table, with some high book cases next to it. On the bottom right you can see a small table with a stack of books. I made this again using a playerhead. The I also made a high chair, which I will show from a better angle in the next picture, so you get a better idea what it looks like.
=======================================================================================
I made this using stairs, placing a door behind it and placing signs on the sides. It's a pretty simple design, but it looks a lot better than just the stairs, which I've seen a lot of other people use. It also has a fancier feel to it, like it would be a more expensive chair.
=======================================================================================
I hope this tutorial has helped a lot of you out there who try to improve their building.
If you want to take a look at this in game, you can download a schematic for the it here.
Please leave feedback about this tutorial, I love to hear what you think!
Also if you made a build inspired by this tutorial, feel free to link it in the comments, I'd love to see your results!
Good luck building!
