Today, I'll be teaching you how to make YOUR OWN SERVER! Play it with your friends too! If you're forever alone, just do singleplayer! ALSO, BEFORE YOU READ THIS AND COMMENT, THIS IS NOT A TUTORIAL ON HOW TO PORT FORWARD!!! SO DON'T GO INTO THE COMMENTS AND SAYING "OMGOMG #YOLOSWAGGER BNKOOKIE HAD NOT ENOUGH INFORMATIONS! If you do, I'll happily delete that comment :)

1) Downloading the Server Itself
You're gonna want to download the server itself to use it! Go here: https://minecraft.net/download and it should be under the Multiplayer Server paragraph.

2) Setup
Now that you've downloaded it, put the download into a folder and rename the folder Minecraft Server, or whatever you want. Then, run the file by double-clicking it. It will then generate some files that are needed to run the server. If you delete them (which you shouldn't anyways), the next time you run your server, it will re-generate those files. Also, the download will be the application to start-up the server. So whenever you want to start it up, run the app!

That's it! WAIT! Before you go, you MUST HAVE THESE THINGS! - Use LogMeIn Hamachi. It's a program where you create a group, and your friends can join that group. It's very secure with passwords and everything. BUT, it for your friends to go on the server, they must be in your Hamachi group! I use this also :) For the IP address to the server, use the Hamachi IP.

Thanks for coming! Also my opinion, Bukkit is way better :D Harder to setup though :( Use bukkit ONLY if you are serious of getting your server popular. I made that mistake once... but that story is for another day! BTW I'm not really a fan of this new layout for posting on PMC... Thumbnails I make and upload here also just turn out black for some reason.

I can't stress that enough. There's no "mistakes" involved with using Bukkit.

Almost everyone who creates a server will want Bukkit to add some depth to a game that gets old fast.

Okay so, this is a half-assed guide to hosting your own server from your home pc.

Most servers are rented through a hosting company. Also,

Bukkit is not only for people who arew "serious about getting a popular server". 99.99% of servers have Bukkit and aren't at all popular.
Bukkit is often used for small or "friends" servers. All Bukkit does is enable plugins such as Essentials.
