HOW TO PROTECT YOUR HOME ON MINECRAFT

Introduction
Protecting your home is important to players who actually want to stay alive. Doing this will actually be a gain by more then just one. You'd be gaining food you didn't even put effort in, and fighting off MOBS with nothing but the protecting outside the door.
Why should you protect your house/land/whatever
Protecting your house will defend your house from zombie attacks, MOBS getting to close, and it will also catch food for you. You'd obviously be kind of not very smart if you did not do this because basically in the end, It's suicide.
Tools you will need
In order to defend your house with items such as lava pits, cactus, and other defensive things you'll need to get them. Cactus will never ever be found on grass, and you're only given chance to find them in the desert. Cactus is a good choice if you're wanting to defend your house because of many reasons. Cactus will actually damage MOBS, and if the MOBS are stupid enough to keep going into the cactus, kill them. Setting up cactus around your house will be like an automatic food catcher. Cactus is actually what I always, and only use to defend my small houses.
If you're wanting to use other traps, or items to defend you house then you could try crafting a bucket, and finding lava to set up a castle like ditch around your house that is full of lava. If you're not wanting to have to find iron, and find lava and all that stuff all you have to do is dig holes around the edges of your house, and dig down at least 3 or 4 blocks down, this will not kill the MOBS but just put them in their place for you to decide their death.
Going Deeper
If you're wanting a real nice security system then I recommend using steel doors inside of wooden doors, or you can also try pistons. Pistons can't be broken by anything, yup I said it. If you're going to be using pistons there's 2 types, if you want to go all fancy like then you should try hidding the wired, and make it "stealthy". If you're wanting just a simple, fast piston layout. Just add pistons and a button so you can get in, and out. You could also set up traps with redstone, then again not a lot of people are redstone freaks like me.
