How to write a Parody

Hey, I see people going around wondering how to write a parody, or having troubles and they don't know why. Are you one of those people? Well you are viewing the right blog post! I always see failed parodies that have missed fatal steps or decisions. Many of them take the short road and come out with a poor result. PMC is full of curious, open minds and information filled minds, giving to the curious. If you notice someone seeking help, I would be more than happy to have you refer them this blog for help. I will go out of my way to help the struggling. If you are going to be dedicated, and seeking a good result... I got the fatal, often missed steps that you need to succeed. If I missed anything, please mention it in the comments!

I remind you, I am no professional and nowhere near as good as the well-known, CaptainSparkles, TryHardNinja, EinShine, Etc. But I will try my best for you. Thank you and Enjoy.

Choose a Song!

As obvious as this is, it is still very precise. Do NOT choose "Adele-Someone like you" if you are planning a happy, upbeat song about finding diamonds and making paradise. You could use it if you were, for example, writing a song about losing a best friend (say a wolf). The point is, know what beat/melody would suit your song best! "Manian-Ravers in the UK" is a massively upbeat song compared to "Adele-Someone like you". It would be VERY difficult to pull off a successful upbeat song that brings a tear to your eye. So rare that most people have never seen it.

Know your theme!

Many, many times this has been skipped. People might look at their song and think "Oh! I am going to write a famous song about this and become famous!". They do that and don't know what they're truly doing. For shame... Of course, you could always choose a song, THEN choose a theme. But sometimes it works best the other way around. (Like if you know you have a sad theme, look for a non-upbeat song). A nice example, in "Let's have some FUN in Minecraft" by Einshine, he has a clear theme. The song acknowledges that some players think that Minecraft is losing it's touch, that there's truly not much to do.. and the song keeps stating lots of great things to do and the chorus is inviting them to do them all! "Let's have some FUN in Minecraft". If you skip this step, your song can easily go off track and off the main idea of the song.

Memorize the Original Song!

This step is often known, and is usually pre-done (if it's the song they have liked for so long). People who skip this step, often just don't realize the importance of it. If you know the song off by heart, you will easily notice little mistakes. It will also help you have a better goal in it, to make the most out of your chosen song. It is a simple and fun step. Ask any successful parody creators and they will agree that they have followed this step till the end.

Count the Syllables!

This is one of the steps that frustrate writers. This is often done while writing the lyrics, (Don't be ashamed if you do, to be honest, I do most of the time too). If it helps, write the song by the verse/chorus. Play the song, pause after a point, write your lyrics, and repeat. For each verse/chorus, if you sing it and memorize the syllables, you write your lyrics with the same amount of syllables, and there won't be any awkward 'extra' notes or pauses. This is an especially important step for ANY genre of parody, most rappers know and engrave this step in their hearts.

Write the Lyrics!

Yaaay, it's the step that everyone has been waiting for! This step can mix in with "Count the syllables!". Make sure you stick to your theme, the last thing you want to happen is for your song to fall offtrack of it's original idea. Make sure that whatever you write this on, so save every verse/chorus or so... If you are writing this one paper, then make sure you don't lose your paper or else you will have to start from square one... yeah... it sucks.

Apply finishing touches!

Often, people write their lyrics and that's it! Even if you think it's good... I bet it can get better. Read over it several time and try singing it to a karaoke version of the original song. You have to notice any mistakes, typos, 'extra' or 'missing' notes, and etc. Make sure you have perfected your song. Don't arrive to your wedding in your pajamas. (It's a metaphor.. but still.. don't. Your spouse will not appreciate it).

Stamp on a Title!

This step can be pretty tricky if you have not figured it out already. It should refer to your theme, perhaps it is a repeated phrase in your chorus, but it should be very catchy and easy to remember. If you need help, then go out for it. It's also too often that you see people ask for a title like this, "hey guys, I need a title for my parody. It's about a cave infested by spiders and I die...". Trust me, you won't get too good of a fitting title out of that.. They don't know what the song is like, and do not share your song with non-trusted people. You shouldn't want your song stolen by others. For YOU to be labeled the "Copy-Cat".

Upload the Final Draft!

Naturally, you must record the visual part of the video, and record the audio related portion, but this is how to write a parody. I am much more familiar with writing a song than recording it. You must search up another tutorial for how to do those, unless of course, I end up learning and make a tutorial. So, make sure the final visuals, audio, and lyrics are all perfected, and upload it! Suggest the song to friends, Advertise it online, do your thing. It's out there, good luck you shenanigan puppy ;3
