Steve tensed up, knowing what was coming. Without looking, he swung his pickaxe behind him, spearing the zombie, then ran for his life. The spider called for its allies with its hissing spider sound. Steve was running. Running. Running. He came to where his ladder should have been, and groaned inwardly. They had removed it. M.O.B., the evil organization working against Minecrafters everywhere, had been after him for weeks. Steve looked around desperately, looking for a way out. There was none. The spiders approached slowly. There was no way he fight them all. He spotted movement that was unlike a mob's across the lava. It was his companion Alex, placing dirt over the lava that surrounded his peninsula of stone. Steve took a deep breath, knowing what she was doing. The spiders crawled closer. He suddenly bolted to the right. He leaped. It seemed like time stopped then. He could see the spiders, rushing towards him. He saw Alex, stretching out her hand. He thought in his mind in that split second:"No. It's not ending this way." Then time started again, and he landed on the short dirt bridge Alex had laid down. He got up quickly and ran out of the exit. They didn't get him that time. He sighed in relief, sprinting with Alex back to base. No matter what happened tomorrow, today he would live. Today, he would live to craft another stick and mine another block. Today, he lived.
