This is my first tutorial and it's for the minetorials contest. I'm going to teach you how to make furniture and interior decorating to make your house look all nice 'n' pretty. :D
Before I start I'm going to say thank you to Appleman96 who's city i took a house from to furnish... does that make sense? You can get the world here.
I used my texture pack (OrangeCraft), which you can download here. I will really appreciate it if you download it and diamond it etc!
Firstly, we need a house :D

Now we have the house, lets start with the kitchen.
  • Counter top - any good kitchen needs a counter top so you have something to lean on. You can make the counter top out of any material, just make sure it goes with the rest of the house. I'm using iron blocks because they look kind of like that grainy stone stuff you have on counter tops. I've put counters along 2 walls of my room. You could do 3 edges, but 4 would be overdoing it a bit. Don't worry about leaving gaps for other features, we'll add them in later.
  • Sink - I like to have my sink facing the front window, so when I'm doing my washing up I can look out at the window. The sink is easy, all you need is a cauldron and a water bucket or block of water. Make a gap in the counter top where you want your sink to be and place the water in. If your sink isn't by a window, you could put a lever above the sink; I couldn't do this because I can't place levers on glass. Next to the sink you can also put a stone pressure plate to look like a draining board.
  • Fridge - a good kitchen needs a fridge, of course, to store food in! Fridges are surprisingly easy. Make a gap somewhere in your counter top. I've done mine in between two windows so it doesn't look strange from the outside. In the gap place a dispenser, and above the dispenser put a block of iron. Jump on top of the iron block and place an iron door in front of the dispenser. On the edge of the iron block place a lever. You could use a button, but this would make it harder to put things in the fridge. Now you just have to put food into the dispenser, close the door, and when you want to get food out just pull the lever! Remember to close the fridge when you've finished though!
  • Cooker - What kind of a kitchen is one without a cooker? I put my cooker at the end of the counter top on one side, not too close to the fridge so that the food doesn't melt! A cooker is simply a furnace. Make a gap in the counter top, place a furnace, et voila. If you want a cooker hood, place stairs or a step 1 block over the cooker - not directly over. I used cobblestone because the house I am using is mostly made of cobblestone and white wool.
  • Cooker (decorational) - for a good looking cooker, make a gap in your counter top and place a glowstone block there. On top of this, place a half step - I used cobblestone - and on the front of the glowstone place a trapdoor. This cooker doesn't actually work, but it looks good.
  • Extras: - Chopping board - place a wooden pressure plate on the counter top.
  • -Microwave - Place a block of white wool on top of the counter. I put mine in the corner because that is where our microwave is in real life so I'm used to that. On one side of the white wool put a trapdoor, and on the other side place a lever. You could put a sign on it saying directions of how to use it.
  • -Kettle (this one isn't very good) - Place one block of white wool on the counter. On one side of the wool place a redstone torch.
  • -Dishwasher - place a trapdoor on the side of an iron block.

Now you've done the kitchen, we need somewhere to EAT the food! Time to decorate the dining room.
  • Table - The first obvious thing a dining room needs is a table. There are 2 ways you could do a table, I have chosen the second way. The first way is to place a fence on the floor, and place a pressure plate on top of the fence. The disadvantages of this are: It looks odd if you try and make a table bigger than 1x1; because you used fences, the table is higher than 1 block, which I just find annoying :P The second way of making a table (my preferred way) is to make a hole 2 blocks deep, however big you want your table to be (mine is 2x2). In the bottom of the hole, put a redstone torch on each block. Above each redstone torch place a piston FACING UP. And that's your table!
  • Chairs - You need chairs on your dining table to sit at when you eat. Chairs are simply stairs of whatever block you want (I'm using wood because I think it seems more home-y). Place as many as these as you like facing the table.
  • Bookshelves - around the edge of my dining room I have put some bookshelves just to look nice. I have placed bookshelves all around one window to make the window stand out.
  • Cupboards - in a dining room, you need cupboards to store plates, cutlery, etc in. A cupboard is easy. All you have to do is place a bookshelf and on the front of the bookshelf place a trapdoor. I have done 1 block high cupboards underneath one window and a tall cupboard along the edge of the window.

The dining room and kitchen are done... Where do you go to relax? Time to make the living room.

  • Sofa - the perfect place to relax. You will need some wooden stairs. This is the best material to use because you wouldn't want to sit on hard stone, would you? Place 2 or 3 stairs in a row. On the ends of the stairs, place some coloured wool of your choice. I have used red wool to give it a warm feeling. I put one sofa against the window and one sofa on the opposite wall.
  • Armchair - An armchair is exactly the same as a sofa except for one person. Do the same as you did for the sofa, but only put one stairs in the middle. It's best to use the same colour wool to make everything match.
  • Fireplace - A good living room should have a fireplace to give warmth and light in the winter. You can make any shape using bricks and half bricks and brick stairs. I placed 3 stairs in a row, and made an arch out of brick blocks above. I made a column going up above the arch to make it look like there is a chimney. Make sure that the back of the fireplace is made of bricks also, or something NON FLAMMABLE. Inside the fireplace, dig a hole 1 block deep and put a netherrack block in there. Set this on fire and your fireplace is done. You might want to put 3 blocks of obsidian in front of the fireplace to look like a hearth. Now be careful here because my house went on fire and I said a bad word. In the picture I will NOT have the fire on because I'm crap at making fires that are... practical.

Going upstairs to the bedrooms now... naughty naughty

  • Bed (easy) - Simply place down a bed. You could put 2 next to each other if you want a double bed... or three if you're... never mind...
  • Bunk bed - Place a single bed on the floor. Above the bed place 2 blocks (it doesn't matter what, we'll destroy them later). On top of those blocks place another bed and destroy the blocks. On one side of the two beds, make a wall of wood (2x3). On the end of the wall, place ladders so you can get up to the top bunk.
  • Bed (harder) - your floor will need to be an extra ½ block higher. Dig a 2x3 block hole in the half steps. Fill this hole in with a coloured wool. I used cyan wool because cyan wool is cooler. Replace 2 blocks at the end of the rectangle with white wool to look like pillows. Done!
  • Master bed - make a double bed by putting 2 bed blocks next to each other. Put 2 fences at the ends of the bed on the corners (you will be able to see what I mean in the pictures). Make these fences 3 blocks high and then make an outline of half steps in wood over the bed. Inside these fences put coloured wool which matches the colour of the bed (in this case, red).
  • Bedside tables - you could just put a block of wood next to the bed, or you could put a chest.

Last room, the bathroom. Remember that in a bathroom you don't want the postman peeking at you while you're in the bath, so make sure the windows are small and high up.

  • Toilet - Place a cauldron on the floor and fill it up with water. On top of the cauldron place a trapdoor. You could put a lever near the toilet as a flush.
  • Sink - Exactly the same as in the kitchen.
  • Bath - Find a 3x1 rectangle where you want to make your bath. Mark this rectangle out using stairs, but make sure they are facing INTO the bath. Fill the rectangle up with water and make sure it's still.

I know what you're thinking, the house is a bit dark, no? Here's some light ideas.

  • Torches - Simple torches on the wall
  • Fireplace - instructions are above. Make sure not to burn the house down.
  • Glowstone lamps - glowstone on a table or the ceiling which cannot be turned on/off.
  • Redstone lamps - Lamps on tables or the ceiling which can be turned on/off. You may want to use complicated circuitry to make the switch in a convenient place.
  • Chandelier - This is NOT a big chandelier which you might find in a church or cathedral. This is a small chandelier which you might find in a fancy master bedroom. Place 3 iron bars hanging down from the ceiling. On the end, place an iron bar block coming out of each side. On each of these go down 1 block in iron bars. Now place a glowstone block on the bottom of the last 4 iron bars. You could use fences, nether brick fences or glass panes as substitutes for iron bars.

Flower pots are a nice way of decorating any room. Here's some ideas of pots and plants.
  • For a small flower pot, place down a dirt block and put a sign on all showing sides. You could put a nice decoration on the sign.
  • For a larger flower pot, place down a dirt block and surround it with a block of your choice.
  • You could also use sand in the flower pots if you want to put cacti or sugar cane in the pot.
  • Nice things to put in pots include saplings, flowers, mushrooms, cacti, sugar canes, melons or pumpkins, wheat, shrubs, long grass, melon or pumpkin stalks, and even fully grown trees if you have room!
  • You could have a lily in a pot by using water in a pot like the second design.

Other decorations:
  • Jukeboxes are a nice addition to an empty room, and you can play music in them!
  • Pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns give a bit of company in a singleplayer world.
  • You could make a table and put some cake on it!
  • I put a porch light on the front of my house so you can see your house when it's dark.
  • I put a button on the front of my house to look like a doorbell, you could use redstone and make a working doorbell!
  • If you wanted a child's bedroom, make the carpet colouful wools. You could add in a train set by making a small circle out of rails and placing a minecart on it.
  • Chests and crafting benches should be in rooms if you wanted your house to be practical.
  • In my garden I put a pond surrounded by gravel, a small waterfall, and lily pads. I also put down some wooden stairs to look like benches.
  • Out the front you can add bushes and flowers to make your house look welcoming and pretty.
  • Bushes can be made with any kind of leaves. I find redwood leaves not as nice.
  • Flowerbeds can be made by hoeing ground and placing flowers on. You could use alternating colours of flowers.
  • You might want to use fences or a bush to make the gardens sealed.

You could make carpets by combining wood and wool to make nice colour combinations, eg. pine planks and cyan wool.

Cool! But I find for chandeliers, nether fences work better. Diamond anyway!

Yeah any kind of fence works really, but I find iron bars look better in small spaces. Thanks :D
