Welcome to my Mod idea, It's called the Microphone Block! This block listens for noises in Minecraft. When it hears something like a mob or placing a block, It would pulse a redstone current.

When there is no noise

I think this would be an awesome mod or in the actual game of Minecraft, If someone wants to make a mod with this in it just PM me and you can just let me know before you do it :D

is the only functionality you are looking for to detect mobs
this mod has potential
very easy to program only one feature

1. recipe (unless you want me to crate which i can)

i think it should be note block in middle, redstone in a boat form under it and then a lever above the note block. and the textures just like they are in the pic
