Minecraft Enderdragon fight too hard in Survival?

I was fight the enderdragon in minecraft singleplayer on survival because I've heard no post of anyone doing this.
So I went ahead and took him on in singleplayer with
full diamond armor.(not enchanted)
diamond sword.(enchanted)
stack and stacks of arrows.
bow.
diamond pick axe.
tons of ladders.
some food.
and potions(potions for strength and speed)

So I knew how to defeat him. I ran to the first tower, short one by the way, took it out and I said "1 down about 19 more to go!" ran to the next tower and shoot it with my bow pretty easy. Then i seen this huge tower started placing down ladders to climb to the top. I didn't know where he was but the last thing I seen was my health was down to one heart when the fall damage kill me off.

What i'm saying is did notch make the boss battle too hard for survival and is it possible to defeat him in hardcore?

In my opinion the enderdragon is too easy...

I have killed the enderdragon on hardcore its very tricky but the trick is to get a good bow with infinity power and flame for the endermen after you have this bow enchant a set of boots and a chestplate look for protection and feather falling my advice would be have protection 4 and if endermen are annoying you i guess you could put water down that should sort them out if you can place it also i would recomend taking a looting sharpness and fire sword because of endermen and if your not very good at archary then the ou could throw the ender pearls so they land on the platform where the energy crystals are but be carefull because enderpearls take damage of you when you use them good luck guys:)

Go and get yourself full diamond enchanted armor blocks and get the towers and PWN Him off

The question was is it possible in survival. I've killed many dragons in creative.

Im not sure how good this would work in SSP but when I fought the ender dragon in creative I used REI minimap mod to locate the ender dragon and pwned him. Ill put down a pic

WEll the only mod i used was too many items for the 1.0.0

With TMI, you can shift click anything to make it have unlimited durability, so try out diamond armor with shift clicking

I try it and died.
It's not the armor it's the fall damage.

Okay, this is my last idea. Google skydaz and find his equivilent exchange installer for 1.0, then give your self a set of red or dark matter armor and dark or red matter sword, with the armor, your invincible. Just dont fall off ledges. >.<
