ObsidianCraft: How it is decaying

Hello Planet Minecraft! Kiki here.

In this article I'd like to address multiple issues on an old but popular multiplayer server.
For the past few months I have been playing on a server called ObsidianCraft, it is a very cool server. The spawn is awesome and the commands are easy to understand. But recently, from the looks of the chat and complaints of other members, the server's awesomeness is decaying. Admins and other high officials are taking advantage of the ps blocks not working anymore by building over people's griefed houses. There is nothing they can do to help griefed victims and there is at least 5 people banned (for right reasons) every time I log in.

The place where I have my home is near a huge area where there are multiple griefed buildings. (That I bet were very cool at a time.) It looks like the ruins of a city after a bomb went off. Off in the distance there is multiple huge structures that I can assume higher officials made. The only bad thing about the higher ups is anyone can become of power by donating to the server. Which is a very bad thing, earlier today I was watching videos on Youtube of these two guys that would take advantage of server privileges. They would tell the Admins on the server that they were from Planet Minecraft and some how in 15 minutes they were op and replacing every block with lava. Now this isn't an issue on ObsidianCraft but what if it did happen? Any server where anyone could become OP in a matter of donating money is at risk. And ObsidianCraft is probably on a scale or 1-10, scores a 7 on how much it is at risk.

Being only a member on that server I haven't really reaped much benefits because when I began playing the ps blocks (which are lapislazuli ore and coal ore) were working in full effect. Some people placed the blocks randomly in forests so it would be harder for new players to start out. There are many traps on the server and almost every day there is EXTREME lag. And I always pay attention to the conversations of the higher ups and how they want to restart the server because of all of these problems.

Personally, along with a few others, I don't want the server to be restarted because I finally have a living on that server. I have food, shelter, a farm and a nice mine and I really don't want it to restart. But if it has to I probably will continue to play on it. The only sad thing is I won't get my supplies back.

Another complaint I would like to make is that when a new player marked as [L] (which I hope doesn't mean loser) asks for help, for the most part Admins don't take action. I can understand that because most of the FAQ is at spawn. But if someone (like me when I started) is really in need of help, isn't the job of higher ups to help that said person? Or are they just too busy building over the griefed houses of others? I'm usually the one helping people if they are dieing of hunger. I even recruit people (girls only sorry) to live with me. So far I have 2 people living with me and my dog Fido. (I know lame)

We've made a nice living out of the area I have, unfortunetly I'm the only one that goes on time to time. I wish there were some diamonds, because the mines everywhere are dry and overworked. Almost no ores. There are some positives of the server. There is a nice banning plugin that bans people with bad language and deletes the post before it is released for people to see in chat. And it also does that for spammers. The griefing ban only works when someone is destroying a large area for extended periods of time. So if you're a grief and run kind of person, you're less likely to get caught. Now I'm NOT encouraging you to go on the server to grief, but just pointing out the obvious.
I'm the kind of person that will only grief if I am dieing and I need that material. Like wood for example, I'll take some and replace the area with something and then later when I'm not dieing, I'll put it back. But I try to limit that because its unfair to the owner of the house.

Anyway, I'd like to thank you for reading my review of this server. And if there is any other servers you would like me to review, I'd be happy to. Just message me the ip and name and I'll spend a few days playing on the server and then write the review. If you like this article, please give me a diamond! :D

Thank you-

... You can still do lots of things as a non-donator and get along just fine as I can show many examples of. With regards to the protection stones, all staff have the ability to override them to take down old builds of players who have been inactive for 1 month or more, you may say this is a bad thing, but, we only take builds down that we feel are not at a standard high enough to be kept, and also make new room for players who are new to the server. If you do feel that the staff are abusing there powers, you can visit the forums or pop on to our teamspeak to report them to another staff member or someone higher up, we have a full list of staff on the website so you can see who is who. I hope this clears up a few things but if you have anymore questions, please let me know. Just so you know "don4of4" is the server owner. Many Thanks, TheMeq

Hi, I'm TheMeq, an admin on ObsidianCraft, I know I'm a bit late posting here but I thought I would explain some of the things you've raised as a problem, just so you know, we have a really nice community on our forums where lots of thing like this can be discussed with players who do actively play on ObsidianCraft - just visit our website and click on the forums link.

As a rule of thumb, anyone claim to be from planet minecraft and who asks for op is instantly banned, never has anyone been given OP Priviledges on the server. We aren't stupid and know that no one on Planet a minecraft asks for OP on servers and even visits to rate servers. The [L] in front of players names just means that that user is chatting in Local Chat and is within an approximate 300 block radius of you. The server is totally free to play with of course, donations to get a bit of an advantage over other players, you don't have to donate and no one is forcing you to, the donations help keep the server running.

I'm sure this is how a lot of people feel everywhere on, I'm sorry to say, mediocre servers. I've always put my trust in the Towny plugin to prevent griefing, and servers that allow griefing but have Towny are perhaps the best ones out there. Dumb griefers get bored because there are no smart people to grief, and leave.

Then there's the smart griefers. They get banned after a few weeks of causing trouble without breaking rules. So all in all, we, the elite players, win.
