All the headers in red are for people who want to create on PMC
All the headers in blue are for people who want to browse PMC
Thanks for reading this, first of all. I'm new to blogging on PMC, so don't kill me if I mess up. Actually, don't kill me EVER. Period. I really don't want to die yet. This article is about a lot of stuff that you will probably encounter on your magical journey to the wonderful planet mine craft. You can skip whatever parts of this blog you want do to the handy headers.
Ultimate Guide on what to diamond on, and who to favourite
This was a hard section to write... but not really, I just needed a way to start this post. My general rule on Diamonding is that if you leave a positive comment, you should leave a diamond, too. Even if you leave a positive comment with one or two things you don't like about it. Also, don't even leave negative comments. Don't say stuff like:
This sucks
Your horrible
I'm from the army and I'm gonna hunt you down and KILL you.
If your thinking about leaving a bad comment, don't leave one at all. I'm fine with people pointing stuff out, but not people being just plain rude. Yeah. So, moving on.
Subscribing is different from diamonding. Subscribing is long term. Don't just go around subscribing, or for that matter, diamonding on anything. You actually really like it, especially with subscribing. When you do that kind of thing it makes the creators really happy, because they think you really like it, if you don't... it feels a bit, untruthful. Also, your inbox will be spammed with messages you don't care about.
So, You want to write a Blog/Description
If you're planning on writing a blog, or the description for your texture pack/mod/server/whatever, then you wan't people to read it. For the record, people HATE reading unnecessary babble. So keep it concise. Also, it is much easier for people to read stuff if it is split into different sections. This is because people like to be able to skip the stuff they don't have to read. If your reading endless paragraphs with no titles or headers, people won't be able to read the part they came for... and will be forced to read EVERYTHING else until they get to it. Another thing you really don't want to do is ALWAYS WRITE IN CAPS FOR THE WHOLE DAMN SENTENCE/PARAGRAPH. Writing in caps for a word is fine, if it is just to emphasize something. Say, if I were to write:
I saw the most epic thing ever yesterday
It wouldn't be very exciting. If I wrote
I saw the MOST EPIC THING EVER yesterday!!!
It would be a bit cooler. You don't always have to make stuff intense though, as it is slightly cheesy. If you're writing something official, epic doesn't work. Hopefully, your not writing an official blog/description, as humour always, and I mean always comes across better for those sorts of things. If you don't have any ideas for a blog, don't write one. Wait till an idea comes to you before you show yourself to the world. Alternatively, you could write an article about your refrigerator and disregard everything I've said, but...
Anyway, thats about it for blogging, so from now on... you're on your own. Well, not exactly on your own. Google is a pretty good blogging companion!
I'm want to make a texture pack.
Do you? Well don't ask me how to, I mean I've made a lot but you need to be artistic/creative. There is absolutely no way around it. If your creative, then congratulations. All you have to do now is get yourself an image editor. If you're a mac user, I suggest Paintbrush. It is pretty much MS paint but with transparency supported. If you have Windows, do not use MS paint, it does not support transparency. This means all the blocks that aren't exactly in the shape of a square will look funny, and turn into squares. I suggest Gimp, and people recommend paint.net.
Now to the texturing. Most of the things you see there... are what they look like. Actually, it is mostly straight forward. Except for a few things, like water, lava, fire text and portal things. Those are things you don't want to edit. The plain blue thing in the right corner is actually the portal animation. Don't edit that, it won't work. The only way for your edits to water and lava to be viewable is for users to install a patcher like MCpatcher or optifine. Yup. So, get to work, can't wait to see wait you've done!
Giving Credit where Credit is Due
This is really important. ALWAYS GIVE CREDIT. Yup. It is really important. I know... I know, I just used Caps for a whole sentence but this is really important. Giving credit is so important. If you've taken something from someone, and only do so with there permission, GIVE THEM CREDIT. Don't, however, give credit for anyone who has ever encouraged you about the thing or whatever. Thats to much. But still, credit is so important. Credit your inspirations. Half the time, 'inspiration' means copy, but sometimes it doesn't, so credit your inspirations.
Avoiding Scams -NEW-
A really good thing to note, is half of PMC is scams. Its people who are bored, want money, and like trolling people. An easy way to detect these are searching for the keywords: free, free mineraft, free games, free money, and practically everything that's free and doesn't have a download link or has NO PICTURES. If something has no pictures, it's fake. If it doesn't have a download link, it's probably fake. If there is no description, don't click it. Also, if someone claims they are linking you to a cool website, and it comes to an adfly link... thats a scam. People really like money. A lot. So, got to go, but um, hope that helped you.
In conclusion, PMC is a wonderfully creative place but you have to be a teencie weencie bit careful.

EDIT:
Your monitor probably displays it as brown, but download the image and use the colour picker tool in MS paint or something. The colour will be black.
Or were you joking...
