RobCo's Guide to Minecraft:

Creating a good server!

Who does not want a popular and good server?

For convenience, i have highlighted important stuff in bold. (Also headlines.)

==============================================================

The answer is pretty much everyone. Everyone that does not, probably has one.

First off, you want to create something that has NOT been done before/is rare.

Protips for unique servers: No factions (As in, anyone can create one sterotype server. 2 HUGE factions agianst each other would be pretty sweet.) No mcMMO. (It is not good for MMOs, is overused, and pretty darn OP.)

Yes. A unique factions McMMO server would be sweet.

Now you are probably saying something like: "Wait, what? mcMMO and factions are good. I like playing on servers like that!"

Yes, but you wont get many players when the front page is like this:

dzBkRampng

(Pay me for advertizing! >:D!)

These are ALL factions mcmmo servers (And hubs, but that does not count). There were around 3 more pages of it, and I was not searching factions/factions pvp. If somebody was searching for a pvp server, the chances are they went to the competition.

Unique servers have less competition.

If you have not caught up, the main goal you want to do is have a unique server.

Factions mcMMO is NOT unique, and there are hundreds and thousands of them.

Also, DO NOT blatantly copy a popular server.

But! - We are not done yet!

If your server is really complicated, (This can be anything from how to join, to how you play.) people will get overwhelmed, and most likely leave.

Do under no circumstances make it too complicated! (Unless of course, you are going for the most complicated server award.)

Would you play a server, where you had to type: AhhdjSODSIDH678 Enfdf every time you wanted to place destroy a block? Nope. (Ridiculous, i know, but I once played a server where you had to do a capatcha(UAS;TLTG) every time you used a command or a shop. Search me why.)

And we're still not done!

Let's say you are creating a PvP server where you have to capture a flag, on a custom map. You can build/destroy and stuff.

But here is something people often do not follow: Quality before quantity!

If you were working (Or said you did.) on the plugin that does stuff like: Change map. Make the flags work. Prevent greifers. But you cannot be bothered to add it, and instead add stuff like: New VIP packages and maps, players will get annoyed, quit, and most importantly: Tell their freinds it is bad/not tell them about it at all.

The quality of gameplay is key. It does not matter how many cool maps there are if the server is laggy, plugin is broken (Or just bad.)

This also counts for support. People want good support for everything. Not a thousand articles on problems nobody is gonna have unless they have the original windows home computer in the support database.

Now... Coming to a textwall near you - A golden rule - And much shouting!

UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES, MAKE A SERVER P2W! YOU WILL ONLY ATTRACT RICH KIDS THAT WANT TO HAVE A SENSE OF BEING THE BEST, AND NON-DONORS WILL THINK IT IS UNFAIR AND LEAVE. ESPECIALLY IF IT IS A PVP SERVER, WHERE NON-DONORS WILL BE KILLED VERY QUICKLY AND LEAVE.

THERE IS ALSO A BIG CHANCE OF YOUR SERVER BEING POSTED ON REDDIT OR SOMETHING, WITH BAD PUBLICITY. YOU DO NOT WANT THIS. I CANNOT STRESS IT ENOUGH!

DO NOT MAKE A P2W SERVER!

Okay. There. I am done shouting now.

In case you did not know, P2W means Pay to Win. Pay to win is "donating" for perks (Donating is giving money for free, so technically a VIP pack.) that are very over-powered, such as flying, teleportation, creative mode, god-mode, etc.

Some servers actually have that for sale.

(*Cough*Lavacraft*Cough*)

These servers have a bad reputation among the more mature community , and are typically inhabited by very rich kids who cannot be the best fairly.

If you want good publicity, please the mature community.

If the immature part hates it, it will mainly be hate like

"Donator sucks!" "mY SeRver IZ bETAR!!1"

(On that note, never ever spam comments with your server ip!)

Making voting perks is not bad, but it gives a bad impression.

The top list is flawed this way, and servers on there a bad name.

WozPHKnpng

These all have voting perks. If they did not, they would not be on the top list.

Sad, isnt it?
