i do what u said. Like most people that start with a small house and make a big house i make a big house right away. It has plenty of rooms. For instance it has a basment for storing chest, a smelting area, a place to make potions, A farm really close by with easiey acess, A outside mine unless me base is underground. I also has a kitchen living room with a tv and a bedroom with all my really important stuff. Last it has a enchanting table close to my bedroom. For starters i would say always have your bedroom the highest it can be to save space. Thats why my bedroom is always in a attic or a loft with a nice view

my house is 1 furnace with 1 hopper on it, 1 bed, 2 windows next to the bed, 1 anvil, 4 double chests, 1 farm next to the house, 1 wooden room that has windows, 3 (I will get more) bookshelves and 1 enchanting table, the house is small, the farm has wooden walls and the house is made of bricks, and I have 3 mines, and near to the house there is a Nether Portal, a bridge in the air to find my house easily, 1 sugar canes farm, 1 chicken farm, and 1 sheep in a small room which I always cut with shears to get wool.
The house is good, but thanks to your ideas I will make it better, I maybe will add an underground base, thanks for the ideas! :D
