i did a lot of grinding
also the fastest way to level your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th class is to simply follow a guide of XP grind spots.
However you should do quests on your first playthrough as it explains a lot of lore and is more fun

tomes are an essential game mechanic in the endgame
trust me you should DEFINITELY stock up on them.
they provide bonuses like for example HP from armor tomes, damage% from weapon tomes, skill points from guild tomes, etc.
tome slots have high requirements which forces you to do at least 1 true completion(all main quests done) as many tome slots carry over but others don't

yes nest of the grootslangs was made way harder by the 2.1 update. back in my day we lured the grootslang out the map and abused acrobat archetype but now the worm flies
but don't worry. the nameless anomaly raid is slightly harder
but notg is overall the hardest raid at level
