.1 Overview



Io ve had this plan of making a MMORPG server on Minecraft for a while now and have finally decided to put my thoughts on o papero (lol). My idea takes cues from the many popular MMORPGo s I have played, such as Runescape and World of Warcraft. I do not intend this server to be centered on grinding for better gear or levels, but will still reward players for their continued play on the server. This will not be a o Roleplayingo server but will have some interaction that will bring some immersion into the setting.




.2 Setting/Map



The setting will be in the Middle Ages shortly after the invention of the windmill. The map will be split in a minimum of Three distinctive zones. Each of the zones will have a major resource that is concentrated there, while having a normal amount in another and lacking in a third. The way cities will be build is still up in the air but it is between these Two choices.



  • Player will have the choice of building their own home following the style of the city, or picking out of a set of pre-build homes.
  • Cities will be pre-build completely with the same style.





Each choice brings different pros and cons. On one hand letting players build their own home gives a better feeling of ownership but may reduce the over all beauty of the cities (my OCD wants consistency). Having pre-built cities allows complete freedom to radically change the outwards appearance of a city for an event or such with minimal effort but requires some time finding a builder whose style is flexible in allowingr such additions/changes.



.3 Economy



A economy of a server is very important and is very difficult to start correctly. I currently do not have a set name for the currency but I have a plan on how to slowly start out the economy on the right foot. At first as the capital cities begin to be populated the prices of items will to strictly micromanaged. The prices will be determined by the amount of workers collecting the resource, how much of the resource is in the area, and by the demand and daily usage of it. When cities are beginning to be fairly well populated the pricing restrictions will be lessened. For example in the stricter system wheat is $100, but when the restrictions are lessened it will be changed to a range such as $80-120. The average buying and selling prices will be monitored and as the market shows for how much it thinks its worth. Be it more or less the median will be adjusted in turn. Once most of the frequently trades items have reached a stable price many restriction will be lifted over the items. On items that are of high value such and diamonds and diamond tools/armor will keep either a range or a set price to deter inflation or deflation of the economy.



.4 Activities/Job



The plan for the different thing to do on the server is split into Three main sections.


  • Gather
  • Defend
  • Explore




Gather


This section contains the craftsmen and leadership of the cities, from the lone farmer to the King/Mayor. Each different artisan job sells its goods for profit which allows them to expand their workshop by buying more land for crops, better material to make better tools, or more live stock to raise. They will get a o Gathero quest daily that requests that they craft or harvest a set amount of materials for the city, in turn they will be rewarded with materials related the they job they have. As more gather quests are completed the city may advance and expand. The expansions could many different things such as adding an improved furnace or a water/windmill to produce bread faster.





Defend


The defense section will be primarily run by moderators at the beginning of the server due to instability of the player base. During this time most guards will be NPCs but as loyal players on the server arise they can be appointed to be a guard by vote of the citizens. They job will be to protect the city from enemy forces, be they a roaming hoard of zombies and skeletons or an enemy faction. These events could occur multiple times a day. A city may invest in different scouting means to see when/if these events happen.





Explore


These are the servero s adventurers, they set out to find riches, defeat dungeons, and gather riches for the city. They can be free agents and be contracted to a city for a certain amount of time, or set they loyalty to one city/faction. Explores will be vital to the creation of new towns and outposts, they are the only o classo that is allowed to travel the world freely without a clear objective in mind. If traveling a long distance a explorer can hire different o classeso to come with them to help such as, guards, cooks, and other explorers.



.5 Dungeons



Dungeons are challenges that vary in difficulty and length. The actual challenge will very between each dungeon as well, not every single one will be a hack an slash to the end. They will contain a set reward along with a chance at the legendary unique reward that only that dungeon contains. The legendary reward will be themed with the challenges contained within the dungeon. If you had just completed a jump puzzle dungeon you might have the chance to be rewarded with a legendary pair of boots. While if someone just completed a horde survival dungeon they might have a chance to receive some legendary armor or sword. Some epic dungeons will contain a mixture of different challenges. Between most challenges there will be a camp site where groups/solo explorers can rest and regroup for the next challenge. Epic dungeons will give you a much higher chance of receiving a legendary but conversely take longer to complete and are more difficult.

So you have hopefully read this is a work in progress and I will take the time to edit this and flesh out my thoughts as they come to me. This is by no means a finished idea; nothing is for sure or completely finished. If you have any additions feel free to comment and I will try to reply to you as quick a possible.
