I have made it a goal of mine to beat Minecraft's Ender Dragon within a few weeks. I thought I'd give all my readers an update as to how that's going.
I have successfully gathered enough diamonds to craft a diamond pickaxe by digging up buried treasures, only to realize I don't need a diamond pickaxe. I can just build a portal with a lava pool and a water bucket. As I returned from my treasure-finding trek, I unloaded my treasures at the Oasis (my base) and loaded up for another adventure, this time to a remote island where I could build a portal right to the Nether fortress.
As of this time, I still have not arrived at my final location, but I am slowly making my way there. This journey has proven profitable for me, as I started the journey with four diamonds and now have eight from digging up even more buried treasures. I have also stopped at several villages, whose inhabitants were friendly, apart from one rude blacksmith who had the nerve to slam a door in my face! (To be fair though, I did break into his house. If you're reading this, Mr. Blacksmith, I'm sorry!)
Though all these villages have been welcome stops on my journey, the next village I am planning to stop at holds a special significance. Lying beneath its quaint houses and farms lies a stronghold; within this stronghold lies my eventual destination: the End. Though I will not explore this subterranean secret during this visit, I will lay the foundations for an End-quest base aboveground. I need somewhere to deposit my supplies before embarking on the rest of my journey.
So what's the plan from here? Once I arrive at the island where I’ll be able to travel to the fortress, I will begin preparations for a magnificent base that will be my entry point into the Nether. As we are trying to complete this whole quest within a couple weeks, I will, again, only lay the groundwork for this build. Once I set up an adequate shelter, I will build the portal out of the obsidian I found in the blacksmith and ruined portal chests I found along the way (unless there’s a lava pool on the island) and enter the Nether.
The Nether fortress will be a get in, get out kind of operation. I’m not too good at fighting mobs, and I can’t risk dying because I have a limited amount of time each day and can’t afford that kind of setback. I’ll collect some blaze rods and maybe some Nether wart and hightail it out of there. Once I drop off my prize at home, I can go back into the portal to gather some ender pearls in the warped forest a couple hundred blocks away from the fortress. That’ll be the last step to craft the eyes of ender.
If you couldn’t already tell, I used a seed mapping website called Chunkbase to locate the stronghold beforehand, so there’ll be no need to waste any eyes of ender locating it. (I’ve never actually successfully found a stronghold that way anyway.) From there, I can continue work on the End entry base, equipping it with an enchanting table (possibly), an ender chest, a respawn room near the portal, and equipment chests. Then, once I’m ready to go, I’ll enter the End portal and defeat the dragon!
The dragon will be a hard foe to conquer. With my less-than-ideal fighting skills and unfortunate tendency to aggravate endermen even while trying not to, it’ll be hard to even get the crystals destroyed. But I do have to say that my archery skills aren’t as bad as my melee skills, so I think I will be able to snipe the pillars. I brought beds so I can use their explosive powers to my advantage. Other than that, I know it’ll be a long, hard battle, but I’m determined to prevail!
