The wither boss is the newest boss addition in minecraft. When killed it drops nothing but not even a level of xp. Unlike the ender dragon no portal or egg falls. It attacks and gives you a wither effect for different amount of times. When withered you will get a black heart screen. The wither boss has 3 heads and shoots an explosion like a ghost. The head/explosion it fires is dark. The boss is hard to kill without good armor. There is no way to get it right now without using mcedit filters. It kills all passive mobs. If there are any more things I should include comment it. In 12w36a you can spawn it by making soul sand in a shape with 1 on the bottom, then 3 more blocks, then the heads.
If you are confused it is like an iron golem but instead of a pumpkin there is 3 wither heads and instead of 4 iron blocks its 4 soulsand blocks. On top of that you place 3 Wither heads that get dropped by Wither Skeleton. To find the Wither Skeleton go in the Nether and search it. The wither boss starts when you spawn it with a blue look for about 10 seconds because when you spawn it, it has half its heart but is invunerable to any damage. After its fully healed it turns black. When you spawn it you see regeneration potion buffs on it. The wither boss will attack any peaceful mobs and also slimes. So if it see's you it will go attack them first if it see's them too. The wither boss drops a wither star. The wither star will be used in a beacon and the beacon will be used to give you potion buffs. When the wither boss ends its regen it will explode so watch out. When you use certain potions it will use them as power. It slowly regens its health back as you hit it. When the wither boss gets to half health it will start healing itself quicker and more noticeably. The wither cannot burn or be suffocated it will just break out of both of those. Aswell as drowning. When the Wither has only half its health you can only melee. My advice when fighting the wither is to have a full set of either iron or diamond armor with either protection or blast protection on it (I prefer blast), a bucket of milk (I think will get rid of wither), a diamond sword with anything on it and a power 5 bow.
