Well, I'm back once again with another tutorial for all you who love to write a blog or two every now and then but just can't seem to get the attention you were hoping for.

Now some of you out there tend to be one of those types who have high expectations of your blogs. Believe me, we've all been there at some point, even common bloggers such as myself, snowylips, exurbia (jgsampso) and greytopher have trouble with coming up with stuff that's of great quality that meet our 'normal' standards. But we all try to keep up that quality of ours. But how can you get more attention for your blogs, you ask? Well, that's why I'm here once again.

In all honesty, originality is even more vital when writing blogs than anything else here on PMC. How so? It's simple, really. Originality in blogs is vital due to the fact that plagiarism (the copying of others' work) is more noticeable than it is with projects, skins, TPs, or even mods. You are able to do the same ideas as others, it's just not the best choice if the idea is a very common idea.

Why not?

It's because ideas can become so overly used that people become bored of the idea and want something new. That is why you have to really test yourself to come up with ideas for your blogs that no one else has come up with yet. But when it comes to new ideas, there is always a few questions that 'haunt' all bloggers every time they go to write a blog.
  • "Is this something that'd catch someone else's attention?"
  • "Is this something someone would really care about?"
  • "How popular is this idea?"

These three questions are questions that 'haunt' me when I go to write a blog. You have to come up with an idea that's totally new, or is barely talked about but is still a huge thing to talk about. Or even, find something totally new that is pretty obvious as to what's being talked about, but no one's written about yet. But don't just write about something that you find interesting. Just because you find it interesting doesn't mean someone else might. Come up with your own ideas or even ask around for some. Don't just let the ideas come to you, take the time to come up with your own.

What's so important about originality anyways and why would someone care if you used their material? It's because they spent the time working hard on it.Using others' work without their consent is considered plagiarism. Don't do it! Hence why you want to come up with your own ideas (same goes with things like projects, skins, TPs, and mods).

Now, if you guys have been following along well enough, you would have noticed that I repeated myself a few times up to this point. I did that on purpose, too. Why, you ask? Because, that's the one main thing I find myself and countless others doing as well, even when it was unintentional. Repeating yourself like that is not entirely the best thing to do. If you repeat yourself a few times, that's okay. But when you repeat yourself like I have earlier on in this blog, you start to lose your audience. Keep your audience interested. Provide examples of what you're talking about. Examples can be a powerful thing for when it comes to writing about things, esp. when you use them effectively like I have with the repeating yourself concept. If you're able to weave your examples into your work like that, people will realize what you're talking about more easily.

So if you have to, have a friend or two go through your blogs after you've gone through them a few times yourself. They might be able to spot something that you weren't able to catch yourself doing wrong in the blog. Even if you feel like you're truly done, you're really not until you've done this step. But when it comes to blog contests here on PMC, you won't be able to turn to your friends from here on PMC for this step, unless the rules state that it is okay to do so, like with the "High in the Sky" build contest and how you're able to do a co-op effort on it but only the person who is "the mastermind behind the build" would get the credit.

And for those of you who didn't follow along all too well with this, here's a list of do's and don'ts I touched up on in this blog:

Do's
  • Stay on topic. Get what you need to say said.
  • Provide enough information on the topic.
  • Keep your audience interested by providing good examples of things that everyone would know of that are related to your topic when necessary.
  • Have a friend or two review your blogs after you've gone through it yourself.

Don'ts
  • Don't bore your audience with what I like to call "extra information." Meaning, don't tell more than you have to. Don't ramble on about stuff no one cares about.
  • Don't just state your idea and just say a few sentences about it. (Don't leave the audience hanging).
  • Don't over do it with your examples. Have one (1) or two (2) examples, then get back to the actual ideas.
  • Don't use examples that aren't related to your topic.
  • Don't repeat yourself repetitively.
  • Don't just post your work right after you complete it.
