Today's topic: Spamming

Now..... as most of you know, there's a lot of spammers on chat today. Why, you ask? Well really, my theory is just cause of the fact that people are either just oblivious to the chat rules, or just don't get the concept no one likes spammers and would get banned from chat for spamming.

But I've found a way to figure out who's gonna end up spamming! Now given, it's not a surefire way to tell but it's more often than not. And here's what I've learned to look for when it comes to people potentially spamming:

  1. The easiest way, but not always a guaranteed result, is when someone exclaims that they're bored! This is actually more prevalent than you think people, so be on the look out for these people. Now, normally you can tell if they're the type to start losing it when they're bored by watching how they talk, which is the next point.
  2. Depending on how the person talks, how much they do it, and, sometimes, the length of their messages can be an obvious sign of whether or not they're the spamming time or not! If they tend to talk in caps, even when they don't mean to, is sometimes a sure sign, but not always. If they tend to not realize what mods and others are saying about them posting servers, urls, and what not, then that's a sure sign
  3. Also if someone uses emoticons in most, if not all, of their comments, they're bound to be a definite spammer! So be looking out for these one's in particular as well!
  4. And the last way is if they are somewhat new to the site! Now, I'm not trying to sound harsh, mean, or even cruel, b/c they're new but it's mostly in part that they're unaware of the rules of PMC chat (which is why I posted the other blog about the popup window for the rules upon the first few entries of chat for those who are new). This one is the most understandable cause, well, we've all been there and all.
  5. The hardest way to detect spamming is when someone arrives on chat and just starts spamming! That part is unavoidable (which absolutely sux). Now there is no way to predict this, unless it happens multiple times with a particular user.
  6. One that i forgot about was one in which they start trying to advertise their projects by saying stuff such as "I'll trade you ____ for ____" or something such as that! Or simply just start advertising their projects every few minutes, get told 15 minute wait between, and just extend the wait only a little bit, then do it again! My advice to these kinds of spammers, the more you advertise projects, the less likely you're going to have it viewed. I'm not saying don't advertise at all, just don't do it too much! As in, don't advertise it every time you've waited 15 minutes after the last time. Post it more like every hour or something! It's more common sense then anything else people!


Now, I know this isn't all of them! BUT, I'm still looking for some other ways of telling who's about to go on a spamming-apocalypse cycle! So mods..... if you're reading this, then please, let me know if this actually did help you out! I'd actually love to know if it did or not for you mods.

I use emoticons in nearly all of mi comments, would you say I am a spammer (I wont take affence, I want to know so if I am I can stop)

Just by looking at 2 and 3. I can tell i'm a definite spammer....... Well :/
