Hi, my name is Frehze.

Throughout the Three years I have been playing on Minecraft Servers, there has been one thing that really drives me away from servers within the first 10 seconds. It's Lag. Due to my recent project, building a server spawn, I have found Two ways that will greatly reduce lag and FPS, so people can walk around spawn without getting frustrated or annoyed. I hope they help you!

If they can't see it, it doesn't need to be there!

What I mean by this, is that any block that a player cannot visually see, is just pure lag. If it does not add function, it's just pure lag. So here's an example, say you spawn in, now, if your spawn is in a normal world, likelihood is there's hundreds of thousands of stone, dirt, and a variety of other blocks below you. By simply removing every single block under spawn (I recommend leaving about 5 at the top to avoid block-glitching and such) you can boost FPS. Use a tool like WorldEdit to //set air to every block under the spawn, Safezone, and any other protected region. Pretty much anywhere players aren't able to get or see. This is something most Owners overlook, as they have top end hardware. Being a player who never had a good PC, just a scrawny Laptop, I found this frustrating, and always suggested it to anybody I could.

Light=Lag

So, you know how light sources have to be rendered upon first login? Well, here's an example. So there's Glowstone on the floor of your hollow spawn. It lights up the top area fine, but when you go under it, it's lighting up about 15 blocks. This is bad. A good way to resolve this is to just put a block on the underside of it, so that it doesn't createunnecessary lighting. A key word to use here is "Unnecessary". Relating to the top method, if they can't see it, it doesn't need to be there.

Thanks for reading! I hope I have got my points across to you. If you have any questions, then just leave a comment on here, or add my Skype "Frehze".

Note: I believe lot's of funky text on signs, especially &k, cause minor lag. I have no evidence, but it's bound to cause some lag. An alternative to lot's of text sign's is using a plugin which says "[Info]" on a sign, and pastes the actual text into a players chat when right-clicked.

I only go on, well, the "official" servers, hosted by YouTubers and such. So their spawns are floating above the void. :P

Nice! *This proves my point, no blocks under spawn, less lag* :D

Correct me if i'm wrong but doesn't air still count as a block. So that would mean it would make no difference...

Well, ait doesn't have a hit- or colission box, so it renders a lot faster.

As well as the fact that it has no texture, so requires minimal loading. Also, things like Lava and water animation are a real stinger! Of course, blocks encased in other blocks don't require texture loading, but still have to be stored there as data, should a player un-encase them!
