    What about making it an improvement for gold tools by throwing the respective gold tool on top of a smithing table with a unwaxed unweathered uncut copper block (same for armors)? Making it as good as fast as gold but as durable as iron. For armor you can make it as durable as gold but as protective as diamond so it's all balanced, as all things should be.
