The Minecraft food system has... a lot of issues. Most notably, there are dozens and dozens of food types to choose from, but everyone just uses either Chicken for its ease of access, or Golden Carrots because they're easily the best. And they're not even that hard to get in the mid-to-endgame!

This Pack looks to fix that, by tweaking most available food types in the game, giving them some kind of unique effect to incentivize their use.

List of Changes
Format
  <FOOD>:
  - [<EFFECT>, <DURATION>, <LEVEL>]
  (<REASONING>)

-SUGARS-
(Sugars give speed, because of "Sugar Rushes". Plus, raw sugar is the brewing ingredient needed for Swiftness potions, so it just makes sense.)
(Vitamins/Fruits also should have at least some health-restoration effect, because they're heart-healthy.)

  Apple:
  - [speed, 10, 1]
  - [regeneration, 10, 1]
(The standard Apple. Players get a few from chopping trees and from chest loot, but can only properly farm them with mid-to-late-game tree farms. As such, they give quite good effects. It makes sense that the Apple's effects also precursor the Golden Apple.)

  Melon Slice:
  - [regeneration, 4, 2]
(Melons are hard to find, easy to amass- but only give one hunger point. Since Melons are used to make Glistening Melons, and later Instant Health Pots, they could provide the player with instant health. That said, Instant Health I is very powerful, meaning it'd be optimal to just keep melons rather than brew Instant Health pots. So instead, Regen IV for 0:04 gives 1.5 hearts.)

  Cookie:
  - [speed, 8, 2] -> [3, 1]
(Cookies are small, 8 per craft, and not granting much hunger. Cocoa Beans are both rare and niche, and found in jungles, like Melons. So, cookies are the speed equivalent of the Melon's health. Quick, short bursts of sugar-induced speed.)

  Pumpkin Pie:
  - [speed, 6, 1]
  - [resistance, 10, 1]
(Pumpkin Pies are (in)famous for high hunger points but low saturation. So, they need a bit more to stand out. Crafted with sugar, they should give speed. Pumpkins also have extra-thick skin, so they also give resistance.)

  Sweet Berries:
  - [speed, 8, 1]
  - [haste, 12, 2] -> [8, 1]
(Sweet Berries are exactly like Melons, in that they’re fruits that grant only one hunger point. However, despite being fruits, they're *sweet* *berries*, basically nature's little sugar packets, so they probably aren't as healthy as most other fruits. So, let's go all-in on speed, two different types. [Plus, Foxes eat berries, and they are known for being extra-quick.])

  Glow Berries:
  - [glowing, 12, 1]
  - [night_vision, 12, 1]
(Simple, glow berries make you glow. Also, night vision, the implication being that you're glowing so brightly, you illuminate any dark area you're in for a time. Of course, this unique effect is a trade-off for the usual sugar speed and health effects most fruits give.)

  Honey Bottle:
  - [speed, 3, 2] -> [7, 1]
  - [haste, 8, 3] -> [4, 2] -> [2, 1]
(Honey is similar to Sweet Berries, sweet without much nutrition. However, Honey is *slightly* harder to farm than Sweet Berries, so, in addition to speed, it also gives a higher level of haste, albeit for a shorter time. [Of course, this is in addition to its usual poison- and weakness-curing effects..)

  Chorus Fruit:
  - [resistance, 4, 2]
  - [slow_falling, 12, 1]
(Just a few minor buffs to make this endgame item a bit more useful in combat, both against End Mobs and other players.)

-STARCHES-
(Starches are carbohydrate-dense, known for keeping you fuller for longer, which is the literal definition of Saturation in Minecraft, so we’ll be seeing a lot of that here.)

  Bread:
  - [saturation, 1, 1]

  Potato:
  - [resistance, 2, 1]
(The initial raw potato doesn't do much, but still gives a bit of resistance to clue the player in that maybe there's a way to make the effect stronger.)

  Baked Potato:
  - [saturation, 1, 1]
  - [resistance, 6, 1]
(Potatoes are the only crop you have to cook before eating. And even then, they're mediocre. This should give them more of a purpose. Plus, Potatoes have thick skin, so resistance makes sense, I think.)

  Beetroot:
  - [haste, 3, 1]
(An individual beetroot isn't going to just be eaten by itself very often. Instead, this effect is meant to foreshadow Beetroot Soup's effect.)

-VEGGIES-

  Carrot:
  [unchanged]
(Carrots are the easiest crops to farm for a quick and easy food source. Just pop ‘em out of the ground, and they're ready to eat. Carrots really don't need a buff.)

  Golden Carrot:
  [unchanged]
(Golden Carrots are easily the best food source in the game. Again, they don't need a buff beyond the saturation they already give.)

  Dried Kelp:
  - [water_breathing, 10, 1]
(Players never visit the ocean floor early-game because of the hassle of swimming all the way up when they lose their air. Instead, players can just munch on Dried Kelp to keep their air replenished, keeping track of a second timer. Players wouldn't need to wait for mid-game brewing just to get Water Breathing Potions; yet Dried Kelp doesn't replace it, because a Potion’s passive 8:00 minutes is way better than having to eat every 10 seconds.)

  -MEAT-
(Meats are probably the most used food in Minecraft, aside from Golden Carrots. They're the easiest to get your hands on, and are relatively nutritious despite that. So, I don't think most of them need heavy buffs, just a few tweaks.)

  Cooked Chicken:
  [unchanged]
(Chickens are the only animals whose food creation and collection can be fully automated. I don't think they should get any buff because of that.)

  Steak:
  - [strength, 4, 1]
(Cows are already used for leather, so their meat doesn't need *too* much of a nudge in the right direction. Just a little something to help it stack up with Chicken.)

  Cooked Mutton:
  - [strength, 4, 1]
(This one's similar to Steak. Sheep already have an alternate function, so their meat shouldn't get *too* buffed.)

  Cooked Porkchop:
  - [strength, 4, 1]
  - [saturation, 1, 1]
(Pigs don't give anything BUT food, in comparison to cows and sheep. So, pork needs a bit more of a buff. Strength and saturation should do it.)

  Cooked Rabbit:
  - [strength, 4, 1]
  - [speed, 6, 2]
(Rabbit is easily the hardest meat both to hunt and to farm. It should reflect that with unique effects. I feel speed makes the most sense to make Rabbit meat stand out. After all, Rabbits can hop away quite quickly.)

  Cooked Cod:
  - [strength, 6, 1]
  - [water_breathing, 3, 1]

  Cooked Salmon:
  - [strength, 8, 1]
(Both cookable fish are also fairly hard to get, compared to other meat types. So, I just opted to buff the strength effect most meats already give, while also keeping the two unique.)

  Pufferfish:
  - [water_breathing, 30, 1]
(Thought it'd be a fun idea to include Water Breathing in the cocktail of otherwise terrible effects you get from eating a pufferfish. That way, there's something to clue the player in that pufferfish can give you that effect, if only you could find a way to negate the bad effects… ;])

-STEWS-

  Beetroot Soup:
  - [haste, 32, 2] -> [3, 1]
  - [instant_health, 1, 1]
(Beetroot Soup needs some serious help. It takes a whopping 6 Beets and a bowl, and does... absolutely nothing every other food item can't already do better. Instead, it now has special utility: an early game (or non-beacon) way of getting Haste.)

  Mushroom Stew:
  - [regeneration, 15, 1]
  - [instant_health, 1, 1]
(Mushroom Stew could also use a pretty major buff, though it is a biit easier to obtain, especially with a Mooshroom. A simple, short regeneration effect about half a Regen I Potion seems to fit the mushroom theme.)

  Suspicious Stew:
  [unchanged]
(Sus Stew already has a gimmick! No change.)

  Rabbit Stew:
  - [speed, 10, 1]
  - [resistance, 10, 1]
  - [regeneration 10,1]
  - [instant_health, 1, 1]
(Rabbit Stew is one of the hardest foods to acquire in the game, requiring a Cooked Rabbit, Baked Potato, Mushroom, Carrot, and of course, a bowl. It already gives a ton of hunger, but that's hardly enough for the effort required. So.... why not just give it the effects of all its ingredients? Speed from Rabbit, Resistance from the Baked Potato, and Regeneration from the Mushroom.)

Also, this pack was inspired both by BotW/TotK's cooking effect mechanics (which is what initially gave me the idea), and by other similar packs, specifically calebchan's reasoning and formatting. Hats off to you, my friend! Special thanks also to my friends on the Sea-Dragons SMP, who also helped with the brainstorming and conceptualization of this pack. <3
