    there should only be one file (the zip file) your not supposed to extract it
    just put the zip file in the worlds data pack folder or look up how to install data packs for mc

    and in a repeating command block. or a tick.mcfunction file:

    yes it should
    none of the commands used in the data pack were changed in 1.17 (to my knowledge)

    I think its because they attack if you don't have armor or something
    so they wont leave you alone unless you are
