Notice- I made a critical mistake in update 8 that causes an end stronghold to generate upon return from the nether, but I fixed it in update 9. You can download the latest version to fix it and do not need to create a new world.
Have you ever wanted mountains to spawn in ranges, or terrain to generate more like it does in real life? Are you just bored and want to see a volcano? Minecraft Overwritten is the pack for you! I'm taking common complaints about world generation (bigger rivers, mountain ranges, more coal in swamps) and using them to create a new community-inspired datapack that uses all these common suggestions.
Here's what the pack will give you:
- Mountain ranges, bigger mountains
- Wide rivers
- Volcanoes (occasionally erupt and spew lava-filled fireballs)
- Volcanoes do not erupt in peaceful.
- All** vanilla biomes generate in a more realistic way
- Large continents surrounded by ocean
- Tropical islands with coral reefs and volcanoes
- Cold Islands with all the snowy biomes
- redwood forest
- more lapis in jungles, more iron in mountains, more coal in swamps, more diamonds under volcanoes
- New Ocean Biomes: Marine Forest, Kelp Forest, Seagrass Prarie, Large Underwater Volcanoes
- structures are more likely to generate in interesting ways: e.g. a desert temple in a village
- More interesting animals in certain biomes (hoglins in jungles; nether-born hoglins still can become zoglins)
**I think I included all vanilla biomes, but I may have missed 1 or 2 since there are so many.
Here's what I want to add:
- swamp and jungle villages
- stuff y'all suggest
Compatability:
Works on Minecraft 1.17.
Might not work with other overworld generation packs.
Does not work on Realms
Download the 1.16 version with the alternate link.

1) Copy ZIP manually to the save folder - Not showing up.
2) Create New World, Datapack section - Drag file to Datapack area to add => Throws a copy error
3) Try to unzip the file before copying, throws an unexpected error => Error 0x80010135: Path too long (._volcano_lava.json)
4) Delete old files/downloads try a fresh download, repeat attempts 1-3, no luck.
NOTE: I did eventually manage to unzip this file and it appears to be working now but it definitely gave trouble compared to adding/unzipping other datapacks. No clue why.
If you really want to keep the old world, then you can follow these instructions:
1) create a new Minecraft world, then log out of it
2) go into the saves folder under Application Support
3) you should see a folder for each Minecraft world you own. Copy the regions, player data, DIM1, and entities folders from the old world into the new one
Sorry for the inconvenience.
