MOST RECENT FUNCTIONING VERSION: 19w16a (There's a bug in 17a)

Hi I 'm TimberForge, (My IGN is ryanethan) a data pack creator and youtuber, and this is the 1.16 Nether Mobs+ data pack for the 1.16 nether update. This pack adds 4 awesome new mobs who each have their own unique mechanics and custom drops, a new mob with multiple attacks which you have to learn to fight against, a special weapon with 3 modes, a buildable structure with the new blocks which gives the player effects similar to a beacon, and other new items. I hope you download it for yourself and give feedback to help me make sure it stays playable through the 1.16 release. Check out my Youtube channel for the full showcase video, and to learn how to start making your own data packs.

Your datapacks are awesome! They've inspired me to try making and animating custom models of my own.

Fantastic datapack man, I've been trying to figure out a way to create fully animated custom mobs for a while now, never managed it. I can do spawning mobs, I can do custom models, even custom attacks. But I haven't come up with a way to animate said models and make them look like anything other than statues.

Do you mind if I pull this apart to learn how you animate them?

Also thanks for getting me in to datapack creation in the first place, it's a lot of fun lol

Of course you can! I'm glad you find it fun, I really want more people to see how fun it is, because so many people are intimidated by it.

Haha, I can see where that intimidation comes from. I think the main thing stopping me from making them was just simply not knowing what they were fully.I had a lot of experience with 1.8-1.9 era commands and a small amount of experience in post-1.13 commands. So once I discovered what they were, It actually wasn't too difficult to get started.

You just have to create each frame of animation in model form. A bit tedious but worth it. I know there's a way to then implement it with a resource pack, but I usually end up doing a data merge command to go through the animations in-game.

ah. thought that might be the case. Yeah, tedious is a good word for it lol

I've animated textures before, cycling through multiple textures. Do you know if it's possible to cycle models?

I seem to remember that not being the case, but it's been a while. So it may have changed

yeah I made separate models for the shark and snake. It was just 3 for the shark and 5 for the snake(Gravitowl made the snake models). Then I used data merge for the swapping. For the animated textures from nBow, it was an animated model (Like how prismarine is animated in the minecraft game files) so it wasn't tedious as far as I know. But if you want detailed animations you do have to animate each frame and it could get tedious.

I haven't tried it before, but I feel you could, for example, have one shark model that has 3 or 5 tails, and then animate the textures so that they cycle from a tail texture to being transparent, in a way that one tail has a texture at a time. This way you dont have to do the data merge, just animate the texture. But I am not sure if it works.

oooh I never thought of giving it multiple versions of a bodypart and just using the animated textures to do the animation! I've done animated textures before, so that shouldn't be too difficult. There is one main issue I have with the whole, animated models thing. Isn't it only possible to have parts rotate in 22.5 degree increments with resource pack models?
