This is just a simple add on to change the book recipe to something I think is more logical and convenient.

A leather bound book with 3 pages is kind of small and floppy, not very rugged. The new recipe uses two of any wooden trap doors as covers, one string for binding, and 6 sheets of paper.

It's not much, but I wanted it. I hope someone finds it useful. It's great for buffet worlds or biomes without cows.

To Do:
  • Fix the zip issue so the downloaded file can just be dropped in
  • Figure out how to leave the original recipe in as well so players have options
  • Figure out why the pack.png file isn't displayed in 1.16
  • Decide if I want to retexture the book (i.e., color-shift it so it looks like a tiny Moleskine :D)
If anyone knows how to do these things, please leave a comment or message me or something.

Update #1 : by scribbler957 07/04/2020 8:57:57 pmJul 4th, 2020

  • Fixed the unzip problem. (FWIW, I needed to zip the contents of the folder, not the folder directly.)
  • Added a pack.png which isn't displaying yet.

I like your idea, but let me ask one thing, why trapdoor? I see, what you're going for, but why not using wooden pressure plates, or slabs (any slim wooden "plank item", ok slabs aren't exactly slim, anyway) instead of doors? Sure when you craft trapdoor, you get two pieces at once, so it's actually convenient, but still using door for a book cover, I personally find it kinda unnatural (but honestly what is in Minecraft natural?). I use trapdoor for building my bases, so wasting them for books, isn't quite my cup of tea.

Sorry, I didn't get a notification.
Pressure plates are a good idea, I just didn't think of them. I just chose a convenient thin wood piece for the cover. I guess it has that open/closing vibe to recommend it. If you want, I'll put up a version with pressure plates.
(But, yeah... realism... punching out a meter cube from a floating tree and tearing it into 4 times the volume of perfectly planed planks, all bare-handed... I think they're really MDF with a veneer.)
