At the moment I am reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
I really love the way she describes things, it's very poetic x3
I should read some Tolkien as I watched the movies... terrible really that I haven't even investigated what the books are like! D:

Oh, is this what you meant by hub? I see now.
So, has anybody read The Mysterious Benedict Society, or is it just me?

Right now I'm reading the Artemis Fowl series. After those I plan on reading the Percy Jackson series or A Song of Ice and Fire (GoT)

Aside from my siblings, i've never actually met anyone who's read the Artemis Fowl series, which is a shame..

I've got all the Artemis fowl books. However I stopped reading them after I finished the time paradox..

I was younger when I read them and found them a little challenging But I still enjoyed them thoroughly!

TOPIC!
What do YOU guys think of Game of Thrones? Would you classify it as fantasy?
The reason I ask this is because when I attended a Science Fiction and Fantasy Lecture there was a real prejudice in the room against Game of Thrones which I personally disagreed with almost every fantasy fan in the room disregarded it as fantasy!
(bear in mind that everyone was almost twice my age in their 30s!)

Game of Thrones is most definitely Fantasy. It could be classified as Middle Fantasy (High Fantasy is like Tolkien's works or DnD)
They're just being bitter.

It was funny to watch them all really xD squabbling about it :3 I sometimes think education can be prejudiced against popular books simply for them being popular xD
I do like GoT even though it has a television series (tbh this doesn't bother me as it gets people more interested in the books! )

Actually, that's how I got interested on it. I just started watching the TV show and now I really wanna get the books (need to find them in my country though).

All over the shelves where I live xD! Though sometimes it's hard to find a book I really enjoy! D:

Alright looked it up:
Literarily, High Fantasy is in a completely fictional world. (LOTR, DnD, Conan the Barbarian, GoT)
Low fantasy is a world like ours with some mythic elements. ( Shadowrun, Valkyria Chronicles.)
In video games, if it has many mythic elements it's high. So Conan isn't High in Gaming terms, but Supernatural is.

I'm personally re-reading one of my favorite series's, Warriors by Erin Hunter (alternatively known as warrior cats). It is a book series for young teens about four clans of cats surviving in a forest. It is actually a really good read

IMO
LotR > GoT
Can't beat the classics. They're. Both good, but LotR is better.

I think I am going to hunt out my dad's copy to read! I read Eragon and enjoyed that - although I found it quite difficult at times
1
I've read all the books and they were quite easy compared to others that I've read.
*points finger at Lord of the Flies and the pile of Jules Verne's books*

LotR is love, LotR is life. The Middle Earth universe books are just awesome.

I just read the first of the Ender's Game series. Has anyone seen the movie? If so, how was it?
1
From what I've heard, it's a seemingly good film, haven't read the books yet, although it does sound like something I'd like, how is it?
1
I didn't realise it was a book ;o; I should get onto that xD
Not that big of 'The Goldfinch' spoiler

So as I was reading more of the Goldfinch there was a time skip of 8 years! I really don't know if I've read anything else with a time skip that large xD
1
I really enjoyed it. If you're into futuristic/sci-fi stuff I'd definitely give the series a chance.
1
I would recommend adding a rule about spoilers.
1
I second that!
1
Oh wait, it has been there since the start Just saw it.
1
yeah I thought spoilers would be a delicate subject xD definitely no posting how books end!
1
It ends when on the last page. Sorry if I ruined books for you.

Pre-sequels, I'm in love with them.

Harper Lee just announced that she will be publishing a sequel to To Kill A Mocking Bird in July. Wow, just wow. That's over 50 years between the books.

I'm in le club. Count me in. I read books all the time. c:
I just read a pretty good book called : The Queen's Gambit
It's pretty cool. It takes place in 1483. It's a mystery, with Leonardo Davinci.
Yes, I said Leonardo Davinci. He's the detective. I read it in about a day.
It's in first person. No, you are not in Leonardo's perspective.
You're in his sidekick's perspective.
No I'm not spoiling the secret if you're going to read it. You'll find out in chapter 3. x3

We have a few members who browse occasionally ! I recently discovered some books have on order and one of them is called The Road by Cormac MCCarthy (I don't know if any of you have read it?)
Either way it's dystopian fiction! which is probably one of my favourite genres, when it comes I decide if I like it or not xD

I also like Apocalyptic/Dystopian fiction.
I'm currently reading the book which the Metro 2033 game series was based on, it was also called Metro 2033. I like it.

How close is the story-line to that of the game?
I should get around to finishing them. I have 2033 and LL.

Bumping on this before it dies, what is your current favourite book?
1
Lord of The Rings: Return of the King
1
Hmm... my favorite book.
I don't really know what to say about that. xD
I know it's silly, but I'm going to say "Sherlock Chick" it's a little kid book.
I really loved it as a kid.
Now though, I have to say I can't decide. I've read hundreds and hundreds of books, so it's hard to choose. =/

I'm currently reading 'Breath' by Tim Winton. Only read 2-3 chapters so far but it's set in Australia (I think) and it's pretty interesting.
Currently waiting for that new book by Rick Riordan that's coming out this year about Norse mythology. It's sad that Percy Jackson is finally over
