Here's an idea for cobble armor: it makes you immune to fire damage, but has the drawback of making you slow as a turtle, and obviously it is better than leather armor in durability and armor points, but has lower durability and armor points than iron armor.

Would not end-crystal based armor tend to be explosively dangerous to the user?

Is logic, but I don't wanna to make explosive.
End crystal armor should only make you explode if you die, damaging your enemies when you perish.
