Can switch and pocket edition do local multiplayer?

I think it can connect to all Bedrock Editions of Minecraft, but it can't connect to Java edition though.
use LAN connect to the same wifi and they will show up
I believe Pocket Edition can connect to everything but Java.
I haven't tried connecting it to the switch yet though, so I wouldn't know, but that's my theory.
