How do I make a map art? (out of hand)

so I want to do some map art, so I went to the minecraft map art website, and it pixelized the image. How do I make that into a map in minecraft without using any mods? I see that people made map art in survival, but how do they do that?

For my map art I do it by hand but if I had world edit I would just use that

I am guessing you are using rebane2001.com/mapartcraft to make the map art. Set staircasing to 2D and click "view online (prototype)" and a image will pop up which shows what goes where.
However, if you want to be able to use more colors for more detail, staircasing needs to be on. However, it is harder to go by the image as you now have to take y-level into account, which is why using a schematic is easier. (You need the schematica mod for this part)

That map art would be mostly just built, like with wool, concrete or other blocks. I'm not exactly sure how you'd do it by hand...
