So I've been wanting to create artwork digitally for a while now. But I can't seem to find any really good programs that I can use to re-create my original artwork. Do any of you have suggestions on which (preferably free) program that I can use? Which is the best in your opinion? What would you recommend?

Thanks

fire alpaca is nice because it is lightweight and easy to use. Gimp is a little more confusing but has more features I believe.

GIMP is good for free. I was lucky enough to be able exploit my student status to get myself the whole CS6 collection for very cheap.

I run a rough sketch in MS Paint(comes with Windows) or make an untextured object in Blender. Then, I make a new blank picture in Paint.net and draw what I made in MS Paint. After a while, I shade it, then filter it. Add effects. If it is a Blender model, I take a picture of the model and color it, shade it, and filter it in Paint.net.
