This is something that is necessary, and will hopefully help us to protect our artwork and better provide our services to the public. There have been numerous instances where we wish that we had collective bargaining rights [for example, the Minecraft Forum license policy], and because of everything, we are formally declaring a union to help protect us, which in turn helps us to continue to provide you with the artwork that keeps your Minecraft experience unique and original.[/b]
Our mission is to group together to be able to provide unified feedback for changes that are proposed and/or implemented, both to the policies of this website, and others, that apply to texture artists, and changes to the game that could severely impact our creative implementation of artwork.[/spoiler]
[b][u][size=150]How to Join/Criterion[/size][/u][/b]
[spoiler]Eligibility: Anyone who has produced original texture packs is welcome to join the Union. You are welcome to post textures for critique/feedback, post suggestions on how to improve the Union, and join in on the discussion happening, whether you are a member or not.
Anyone who is an established member of the Union is welcome to apply for Union Adminship when we have spaces available. Union Admins will be brought in by consensus of the current Union Admins at the time.
NOTE: Union Adminship does not make you a member of the Staff of Planet Minecraft, Minecraft Forums, or any other site (unless we get a Union Website up).

[b][u][size=150]Emblem Information[/size][/u][/b]
[spoiler]We work together to ensure that our artwork remains our own, and have emblem secured membership that shows that the artist is backed by the union, in case of discrepancies and/or loss of intellectual property. This emblem is the symbol that represents a license of creative works, which is outlined here.
A few words of clarification:

For those who do not have a license, it is required on the Minecraft Forums and recommended for everywhere else. There are a lot of very simple and easy to copy-and-paste licenses out there, so it shouldn't take you more than a minute to throw one up on your OP.
That said, having a Union emblem at the bottom of your OP will not only identify you as a member, it will also-- with time and exposure-- come to be a quick reference for anyone looking to potentially use your textures. Again, they should also read your license, but if they see a diamond emblem they know right off the bat that the answer to any of their requests is no.
The point of both the emblem and the Union is to try to protect you guys, the texture artists. To that end, we are trying to come up with a unified, stream-lined system that will supplement licenses and help to simplify the legal conundrums that go along with them. It may take some time, but with a bit of luck and a lot of advertising this will become something that everyone uses on a regular basis, and which will help to cut down on the current confusion. -steelfeathers[/quote]
There are [b]two[/b] main parts to the emblem.
[b]The first[/b]: A gold letter Tau means Admin, a silver Tau means Member.
[b]The second[/b]: There are 4 levels of licensing ownership represented by your emblem, which is chosen by YOU, which is why you must be given the emblem.
[b]Wood[/b]: The lowest level. Having this on your pack indicates that your textures can be used by anyone-- with or without explicit permission-- for any purpose, including remix packs. NOTE: As a precaution, the default expectation of this rule is that the textures cannot be used with adfly links. If you don't care if someone uses adfly links with your pack, be sure to say so in your written license.
[b]Iron[/b]: A moderate level of security. Having this on your pack indicates that your textures can be used by anyone-- with or without explicit permission-- for any purpose, including remix packs, so long as credit is clearly given to the original author both within the zip file (as a readme) and on the original post of the remix. NOTE: As a precaution, the default expectation of this rule is that the textures cannot be used with adfly links. If you don't care if someone uses adfly links with your pack, be sure to say so in your written license.
[b]Gold[/b]: A strict level of security. Having this on your pack indicates that your textures can only be used after written permission is obtained from the creator of the pack. It also indicates that adfly links on remixes are never acceptable, under any circumstances.
[b]Diamond[/b]: The highest level of security. Having this on your pack indicates that your textures cannot be used for any remixing or redistribution purposes whatsoever, including re-posting to a different website. It also indicates that adfly links on remixes are never acceptable, under any circumstances.

The person running that server can choose what rules he/she wants. But, my fellow union members,if you choose to play on a private server, we expect you to represent the Union in a positive manner. This emblem is the symbol that represents a license of creative works, which is outlined here.
A few words of clarification:

There are [b]two[/b] main parts to the emblem.

If you want faster critiques on your textures then I would recommend visiting the TAU thread on minecraftforum.net as that is where a large amount of the Union members joined up.
That said, there are a good few of us that frequent PMC so you could get some good advice on any textures you post here.

Do you think there could be TAU moderators who could evaluate and accept new members and have a different badge. They would be like admins except lower and only for this post on this website so they don't have to worry about the other sites. I would apply for moderator that is if you choose to let me in as a member and if you decide to make the moderator idea active so let me know if you are going to use the idea and i will make camp at this post for a while.

So much infringement on this site with even the global moderators refusing to remove it.

You lose a lot of respect and credibility when you act the way you do. Like saying the mods refuse to remove stolen content, and the rage thread you made where you accuse the mods of being incredibly lazy.
Some statistics for you:
Members outnumber site moderators by over 13000 to 1
Not all the moderators are even active
800 new members every day
Hundreds of reports every day
Most reports we get are ridiculous:
"He stole my textures!"
- Which texture pack of yours?
- Which textures?
etc
Any idea how long it takes to go through one report when we get reports like this?

That doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
Sometimes just calling attention to the crime and pointing people to the official art is enough to effectively choke the offending thread.
If someone is releasing art that they didn't create without permission they should get some sort of punishment.
I can accept ridicule as a form of punishment...

I'd love to be a new Union admin, however I feel it's not for me.
I feel I haven't been a member long enough and I have a rather short temper. Which as you can imagine gets me into all sorts of trouble.
I also have very little free time as it is so I definitely wouldn't be able to accomplish even the simple tasks of checking the forum topics often.
I still recommend people to join the Union, nothing will stop me doing that.
If it benefits the community, I'll throw it at them.
Regardless, I wish the new admin luck (Whenever she or he is chosen) in their new position and I can't wait to see what this website will look like.

In light of this, we are looking for a new Union Admin.
To apply, all you need to do is be an established member of the Texture Artist's Union, and post expressing your interest.
What you will be expected to do:
In a few days once a few people have applied, we will talk about the applicants privately and once we come to consent, congratulate our new admin.
Here is what he had to say about the matter:
I am stepping down as admin of the Texture Artists Union. The website that I and several other members of the texture community have been working on is set to launch this Saturday and I really need to devote more time to that and my game development projects. In light of this and the fact that I do not set the best example of behavior on [Minecraft Forums] it is in the best interest of the union and the community that someone who may be more suited to that role take my spot as admin.
In light of this, we are looking for a new Union Admin.
To apply, all you need to do is be an established member of the Texture Artist's Union, and post expressing your interest.
What you will be expected to do:
- Initiate new members
- Make sure this thread, the Minecraft Forum thread, and the pretty much dead Collaboration Pack and TAU Server threads obey both the thread, and forum, rules.
- Talk with us in our MCF PM chat and Skype group.
- And maybe other things that I can't think of ATM

Alright, the TAU has expanded its reach! I am thankful our mission statement has been successfully implemented to the point we can be on multiple websites! Within the next month, we should also have our official Union site up.
I know to many of you, the idea of a union of artists might seem ridiculous but I can assure you that myself and many others have benefited from the group. It is a place you can be provided with instant feedback on your textures. It helps protect your artwork by being vigilant and by using the power of many.

I really am hoping for that.
This site is fantastic but really suffers from texture thieves.
I am working tirelessly trying to get them removed as swift as possible.
It's even worse when most of it is stolen from my packs :/
