I have noticed that giving a build colour gradient or giving them a pattern with for example stone or stairs are not mutually exclusive. since i've been playing since 2015, back then there weren't many blocks so people used to beautify builds with slabs, stairs etc. but now we got more blocks than imagined. so we can use colour gradients. however i have noticed that giving builds colour gradients and giving them patterns are not mutually exclusive or are they?

If your going just for looks id suggest using color gradients, if your going for playability id go for the form rather than color. it really depends on what build you want to use it on!
