You know how you get an epic project idea( ), and you get ready to get your materials, but then!! What do you make it out of??? That's why I'm here! I need a good material to make my epic fortress out of, and I don't want a creeper to be able to do this: "That'ssss a nice houssse you've got there...it would be a ssshame if sssomething happened to it..." BOOM! Any ideas??

BTW, I got the idea to make them twin towns instead of twin houses, same materials though. The ominous town is named Ominous(it's a good name, don't you think?)and the other town(the simple town)is named Goode. I'm thinking of making it a map, where you have to pick a side and battle it out every week. There's also going to be a jail in the center, with an outer shell of obsidian(which a zombie/skeleton/spider horde will live in, a middle shell of obsidian(with a pit of lava that you have to swim across), and an inner shell made of obsidian with the actual cell in it. The cell will have a bed surrounded by a 5x4 shell made of lava(with a window, of course!). You have to survive to get free. It's really more of a challenge.

I all ways like building with more earth tone materials like stone and wood. They all ways seem to turn out the best.

BTW, I want to make twin houses-one for me, and one for my cousin Matthew. Mine has to be really calm(ish), and his has to be really ominous. I have a few ideas, but I want to know what to use for the details for the ominous house...

I've got it! I'll build a wall of bedrock, the details for the ominous house will be netherrack, and the details for my house will be lapis! Also, there's going to be glowstone for interior lights.

Lapis or Obsidian is my best guess.

It would depend on if you want the fortress to look dark and evil, or simple and light.
Dark and evil = Obsidian detail (and for strength in parts) and netherbrick for the large main areas.
Light and simple(ish) = Stone brick and cobble detail, maybe some blocks for decoration too if you can work them in. - patterns of glowstone, lapis or obsidian can be quite nice.

Tip: work in interesting designs/patterns with different (maybe unexpected) materials too, and use stairs or slabs to make odd shapes and angles
Allot will vary on the texture pack though, good luck and happy building!

Oh, forgot to mention, a little netherbrick looks nice too. Bricks generally, imo, don't look nice unless used VERY rarely and VERY wisely..

Wood always looks amazing, say, a contrast of pine logs with birch planks. But, if you're thinking more stone, Stone(bricks), cobble, stairs and slabs for effect, always a good plan.

Glowstone looks good with pretty much anything, but too much spoils it, so be careful on that one.
