Hello everyone!
I have just found an awesome project that is helping scientists around the world to seek cures for diseases, including ones like HIV/AIDS and Ebola. World Community Grid (WCG) is an effort to create the world's largest public computing grid to tackle scientific research projects that benefit humanity. The project was launched in 2004 and is maintained by IBM. It seeks to use the idle hours that people do not use their computers (for example, when sleeping) to help scientists research.
Using the idle time of computers around the world, World Community Grid's research projects have analyzed aspects of the human genome, HIV, dengue, muscular dystrophy, cancer, influenza, Ebola, virtual screening, rice crop yields, and clean energy. As of October 2014, the organization has partnered with 466 other companies and organizations to assist in its work, and has over 70,000 active registered users.
It is very simple to work the program, and the program is supported on Windows, Mac, and Linux-based systems. There is also a program that leverages the GPU and works using OpenCL 1.1. For those worried about pushing their processors too hard, there are simple menu options available to tone down your processor's usage - for example, you can set it to only work between certain hours, only after a certain time idle (for example, after 15 minutes), or you can set it to never push your CPU past a certain percentage (The default is 60%).

Joining is simple! Please use this link to join the project, but keep in mind there are some small system requirements. The speed or performance of your CPU does not matter (every little bit helps!), but some hard drive space and some memory usage is required to run the program.
